Pizzeria Osteria Pasquale — Restaurant in Pontedera

Used this restaurant for lunch on Thursday this week. The serving staff seemed helpful and the English speaking staff member explained what the lunch options were (buffet or some set pasta options from the kitchen). We opted for the buffet as it looked and sounded lovely. The pricing though was confusing and not transparent. This should have rung alarm bells! But the staff seemed so helpful and accommodating we felt safe. What had not been explained to us is that on the buffet option you pay per plate! For 2 adults and 2 kids we ended up with a total bill of €87 which was eye watering!!! If you go for the buffet be sure to get what you want on your one plate -as any extra plates are charged at an eye watering amount. Between the four of us we ate everything we asked for, but we didn’t have that much that any of us felt stuffed. We are left with the bad taste in our mouth of being ripped off. We had no alcohol and only one bottle of water (75cl) between the four of us. We work incredibly hard for our money and it’s really galling to be ripped off so badly. My husband doesn’t like to complain, or make a scene, so he paid up without questioning it. We have learned our lesson when it comes to buffet in Italy. A lovely little restaurant selling excellent food. We ordered from the express menu but the buffet looked and smelled great.I had the Cacciucco a fish stew typical of Livorno. It was glorious the sauce was rich and savoury; I had to soak up every last drop with bread. It was so good. I followed this with a tiramisu for pudding. Non conoscevo questo ristorante, ne ho avuto l'occasione perché dovevo andare al museo Piaggio per un concerto con altre persone. Posizione perfetta perché è ad un minuto dal museo. Bel posto, con giardino all'aperto, Pasquale ci ha fatto accomodare anche se arrivati in anticipo in giardino. Senza problemi ci ha subito preso l'ordinazione e nell'attesa ci ha detto se volevamo un pò di farinata di ceci, che noi chiamiamo a Livorno torta. Una bella sfida perché noi livornesi in Toscana siamo i numeri uno per questa. Invece era molto molto buona, ma il nostro Gagarin, Pasquale non si offenda, la fa più buona. Poi ho preso dei crostoni cacciuccati da leccarsi i baffi, ricordiamo siamo a Pontedera non a Livorno. Le altre persone chi ha preso la stessa cosa, chi il filetto al pepe verde, chi la pizza, un buon vino bianco eper finire un buon caffè. Prezzo contenuto.
