There’s a distinctly odd vibe in this place.
Firstly the decor and music and most importantly the cocktails are all great. Really top notch. But sadly the customer service is a bit off. The staff seem friendly but they are distant. Like they don’t really want me there. Like the other customers are more important. I’m sure the customer service is great for parties or couples. When I did get someone's attention they were happy to get me a drink but I felt like I was disturbing them every time I did.
The first two times I’ve been here I felt like they didn’t want to serve me, had to really try to hard to get the waiter's attention and noticed that other customers were getting nibbles and being asked if everything was ok. Maybe it’s just solo traveller syndrome. Everyone hates solo travellers. We tend to get ignored, forgotten about and eventually discouraged. Or maybe it’s because I am English and my Italian isn’t great. I'm not sure.
Anyway, the last time I went they told me at 9pm they didn’t have a table inside even though many were empty but they were needed for an event at 10pm. I said it would be fine. I’d be done by then and the waiter kindly offered me a table until then. Cue the deathly stares from the management and questions obviously raised about why I was given the table. obviously they are hosting an event and want it to go well but there’s now an atmosphere and tension in here.
At least I was given nibbles with my cocktail this time. I left because the vibe was getting weird. I later found out there was a theatre performance in the bar and it was pre-booking only. I sincerely doubt that everyone in that bar was there for a theatre event. And people were still getting seated and served after I had been “allowed” to buy a drink.
I left after one drink as I felt too stressed to order a second and instead went to a nearby friendlier bar, La Chiara de la Luna.
By the way I can never sit outside in these bars because the outside areas are usually full of smokers and my throat is wrecked if I inhale one breath of toxic cigarette fumes. The restaurants in Procida don't seem to mind you having to sit next to someone smoking while you eat or drink. Not acceptable.
Great cocktails but you need to do better with the customer...
