La Locanda dei Sognatori — Restaurant in Saint-Pierre

An excellent stop by the main road of Aosta Valley (not the highway), a stone's throw away from The Sarriod and St. Pierre's Castles. Food is superb and the portions are very generous.

Tables are simple with very comfortable chairs and the bathrooms are simple but squeaky clean and functional.

The service sometimes gets a bit muddled by some lack of communication which may occasionally increase waiting times, but it is no cause for alarm.

The glasses however were sometimes not cleaned so well. We had a slightly dirty glass and a coffee cup smeared with lipstick from a previous owner.

Having said that, the chef takes great pride in his creations and comes to see if the customers are satisfied with his product. Indeed we were.

Abbiamo cenato in questo ristorante aggiungendoci ad un coppia di amici che avevano prenotato ed in diverse occasioni hanno cenato qui e quindi lo consigliavano. Abbiamo ordinato due assiette + fonduta tutto molto buono e presentato bene, 1 Valpellinentze, 1 Civet di cervo e 2 valdostane. Preso anche 2 bottiglie di ottimo Fumin di Barrò. Valpellinentze assolutamente non all'altezza sia per il sapore che per il prezzo richiesto. Civet di cervo tenero ma sicuramente non strepitoso come per la polenta concia con il quale viene servito. Quando quello che penso fosse il cameriere caposala ci chiede se tutto andava bene gli facciamo l'appunto che la Valpellinentze non era stata assolutamente di nostro gradimento. Chiede che cosa non ci era piaciuto e lo spieghiamo e ci dice che lo avrebbe fatto presente al titolare che è anche lo chef. Torna il caposala e si rivolge a me domandandomi se fossi uno chef e alla mia risposta negativa mi chiede se fossi anche sommelier, al quale ho di nuovo risposto negativamente. Anche gli altri si sono accorti della situazione un po' "elettrica" che era venuta a crearsi e della "stranezza" delle domande del caposala. Al quale ho preferito non domandare il perché della domanda per non creare un ambiente spiacevole. Ci fa visita il titolare, sappiamo che è usanza in questo locale e ci fa piacere, anche lui domandandoci se andava bene ed abbiamo esposto le nostre critiche (anche costruttive) sulla sua Valpellinentze che lui accetta di buon grado e fondamentale ci può stare sbagliare un piatto. Ordiniamo anche il dolce con vari assaggi che propongono, cameriera molto preparata, tutto bene. Paghiamo e siamo via. Conto di circa 190€ e neanche ci è stato chiesto se desideravamo un digestivo che diciamocela tutta quando spendi cifre del genere e in più il cliente non è proprio contento forse sarebbe una buona idea cercare di addolcirlo con un amaro offerto ed invece nulla. Diciamo che per dei prezzi del genere ci si aspetta decisamente di più (neanche la tovaglia sul tavolo ma tovagliette di finta pelle). Cameriere gentili e preparati ma il caposala con quella domanda ci ha veramente lasciato e bocca aperta. Ristorante per turisti dove si cerca di massimizzare il tutto. What a wonderful discovery in this beautiful place!! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, even with our children (we don’t think we ever had such genuine nice service for children in a restaurant before). After tasting the delicious traditional food we felt bad we were too tired after a very long day of hiking to order a whole menu (and we were so grateful they did not treat us differently because of it). We even decided to postpone our sleep a little longer to order a - delicious - desert. We would highly recommend and hope we will find the time to go there again...
