Locanda San Martino — Restaurant in San Siro

This review won’t be about food, as we didn’t get the chance to taste it. We called 5 times before arriving, no phone was picked up - at the recommendation of our local host, thinking it was a Thu evening and we will find a table, we drove there anyways. It is a steep mountain road - not easily accesible at all. When we arrived, we haven’t even been helped to park / asked something - when asked if any table available, we were told it’s only two people in the kitchen and there is no more capacity (there were 4 tables sitted already). I advised posting on instagram or picking up the phone :) when you have such a hard to reach location, you have to avoid these moments - or at least welcome the people who still arrive with a glass of water to enjoy the view. The view is breathtaking … totally worth it. I am sure the food as well! This one star review is solely to advise not to drive all the way there unless you have a firm reservation and also to suggest some communication improvements...

Would give it 6 stars if I could. The best food and views of our trip and a family run, hidden gem of a restaurant tucked up in the hills. Feels like you’re on top of the whole lake. Small menu of excellent homemade dishes. The owners were absolutely lovely, and she was very helpful in communicating about our reservation, which you need as it’s a tiny place. They asked about dietary needs beforehand and took wonderful care of the vegan in our group. You may want to hire a driver as the road gets very narrow at the end and parking is tough, though you can park a small car a few hundred meters up the road and walk down. Ho trovato la Locanda San Martino online, facendo una ricerca su google delle locande ed osterie sul lago di Como. Cercavo un posto in quota, dove potersi sedere, mangiare qualcosa di locale ed ammirare lo splendore del Lago di Como.

Ho prenotato con WhatsApp alle 23 circa di sera e poco dopo, sono stato subito ricontattato dalla proprietaria (Paola) confermando la mia prenotazione (non mi aspettavo di ricevere una conferma prima dell'indomani, invece la Signora Paola sta sul pezzo!).

Siamo arrivati il giorno dopo alle 12:45, in questo paesino, sospeso nel tempo. Vista sul Lago spettacolare. La Locanda in se è piccolina, atta ad Ospitare meno di 30 persone, ma l'accoglienza di Paola e suo marito ci hanno fatto sentire a casa.

Il menù è ridotto, non tante cose, ma fatte bene, anche perchè erano solo in due a fare tutto....bravissimi. Nonostante le tante cose da fare e circa una dozzina di clienti da seguire, Paola e suo marito non hanno mai fatto mancare un sorriso e qualche chiacchiera, anche in inglese con altri clienti presenti alla locanda, dando ancora dimostrazione, come se ce ne fosse il bisogno, che l'accoglienza italiana è una delle migliori al mondo.

Ieri abbiamo preso un antipasto all'italiana, un classicone intramontabile, salumi e formaggi... buonissimi. POi abbiamo proseguito con tagliatelle coi funghi e granella di nocciole, altrettanto buone; Aproposito, mia moglie è intollerante al glutine e la Sig.ra Paola ha optato per una pasta gluten free (marca Rummo), grazie alla quale mia moglie ha potuto gioire del piatto come me.

Carta dei vini piccola, poco pretenziosa, ma giustissima per il posto in cui ci siamo fermati.

Ho adorato la passione con cui Paola ed il marito fanno questo mestiere, la fatica, il sacrificio di fare qualcosa che piace e da soddisfazione.

Un grazie di cuore ad entrambi per avrci regalato un pranzo così rigenerante per noi, dopo un'estate di lavoro. Ci torneremo di sicuro e la prossima volta, a patto che Paola ci dica il nome del marito...
