A must-visit gem in Abruzzo!
Clemente was one of our most memorable meals in Italy. Recommended by our B&B, this place absolutely delivered — from the generous hospitality to the amazing food.
We started with the mixed appetizer platter, which was huge and filled with unique regional flavors — including perfectly prepared lamb offal that reinforced our belief that Abruzzo chefs are meat masters. Even the little amuse-bouche (a crispy fried dough with soft cheese) was delicious.
The Tagliatelle verdi con ragù del cortile had a lovely, layered poultry ragu (chicken, duck, turkey, rabbit) with refreshing flavors, though the pasta was a bit soft for our taste. Still very good.
The Farfalle alla Clemente — their signature dish — was the star. Don’t be fooled by the homey look: the sauce with prosciutto, spinach, and mushrooms was incredibly rich, savory, and balanced. No sheep cheese, so safe for picky eaters too!
The grilled veal steak was perfectly done — medium rare, beautifully seared, tender and juicy with just the right amount of fat. Abruzzo knows how to handle its meats!
To top it all off, they surprised us with complimentary dessert and sweet wine when they found out it was our birthday. One of the servers even shared that his birthday was the the next day — such a sweet moment!
Excellent food, nice wines, great prices, and truly heartwarming service. Clemente has earned every Michelin...

Perhaps the best restaurant in Sulmona!
The waitress was excellent and helped us (a party of six, two couple and two teen boys) through the ordering and helped us make the right selections - particularly challenging as our friends are gluten free.
We all managed a pasta and some meat dishes were shared along with a few contorni.
Pasta w saffron was a hit - both w gluten and without. Same for the pasta Clemente or house special. My son really like his lamb and everything else was hot and tasty all around!

Read moreWe cannot understand the predominantly positive reviews here. The service from the two young waiters was absolutely perfect and first-class. That's why it gets a star. However, the chef completely failed at a simple task. A few half-burnt ribs, disgustingly greasy, tasteless, fries drowned in fat. The Michelin star on the door must have won the lottery. The bill at the end was incomprehensible and excessive. Bad value for money. We travel a lot, come to Italy often and have rarely been so disappointed. In summary, we cannot recommend...
