Roça restaurant — Restaurant in Torre del Greco

If you are south of Naples, specifically near Herculaneum, then you have to go eat at a not yet known spot called Roca. It's rare to stumble onto a prized locals favorite these days and it felt good to get welcomed in with open arms. Roca sits pirched at the top of the hill on the corner in a charming part of the neighborhood so prepare for a short drive or walk if you're already near. The Roca staff took great care of us through each of the courses encouraging us to slow down because we were scarfing. But we couldn't help ourselves, the food was SO good we literally licked out plates clean. We we're super impressed with the two young chef's, Carmela and Rosalba. Watching them work through the small window to the kitchen was a treat and they were so warm and welcoming, they both came out several times to check on us and give us suggestions for our next courses. After more than 3 hours of great food, wine, and conversation, we called it quits and hit the Naples streets with our driver Michael at the wheel. I'm sure this place is great for locals, which is also why we came in the first place, the high rating. The food was indeed delicious but when we asked for the bill, I noticed the prices were slightly different from the price on menu which total to about 18 euros. (Oysters were 2 euros more each, mixed grill was 5 euros more than stated on the menu, wine is 1 euro more per glass etc.) I understand seafood could sometimes cost differently but no communication was made when we ordered which just didn't feel very honest. I always check the bill but it's the first time I'm so surprised by the items. If the prices fluctuates, they should state it in the menu, or up front. That would be my suggestion. The food is delicious though and to be fair it's not overpriced, just the overall experience...

Direi che l'esperienza ci è bastata per decidere di non tornarci più! 1° maggio a pranzo io e mia moglie. Ambiente ordinario, mediocre, tavoli non apparecchiati, sedie non scomode ma basse rispetto al piccolo tavolino. La casa offre un menu fisso di 25€ a persona, in genere a me non convincono molto i menu fissi, ma, visto che ordinare alla carta era assolutamente proibitivo, visti i prezzi (inadeguati e sproporzionati rispetto all'ambiente) abbiamo optato per il menù fisso. Le varie portate di assaggini di antipasti (credo 6 o 7 a testa) venivano consegnati direttamente nelle nostre mani (?) che, dopo la seconda portata, non sapevamo più dove poggiare i vassoietti. Il tavolino si era già riempito! Mia moglie ha assaggiato qualcosa, come anche io, ma ad entrambi non erano molto graditi, dopo la quarta portata abbiamo rinunciato al resto in quanto, lo stomaco cominciava a rifiutare tutte quelle diverse portate. La verità è che avremmo rischiato di non riuscire più a gradire il primo piatto. Decidiamo quindi di fermarci ed ordinare i paccheri con le cozze. Con sorpresa scopriamo che il piatto era quasi vuoto, In pratica si trattava poco più di un assaggio, mah!! Insomma i paccheri erano saporiti ma decisamente insufficienti, a quel punto ci era già passata la voglia di continuare per cui abbiamo rifiutato il resto compreso il dolce e l'amaro.
