Today I was asked to leave this barâor rather, I was thrown out and humiliated in front of the other customers. I begin by saying that I am 52 years old, a kind and polite woman, I teach clinical psychology at the university, and I sometimes come to the bar with my autistic son. Even though my husband is a local Italian, I myself do not speak this language perfectly. A few days ago, I spoke to the owner of the bar and asked whether, for the next few days, it would bother her if I stayed there for two hours a day with my laptop, of course while ordering something, because my son was going through an adjustment period at school and I had been asked to remain nearby. She told me it was no problem at all. Already on the first day, after 15 minutes of sitting there having a coffee, I was told that I could not keep my computer plugged into the outlet for too long. I apologized, smiled, and unplugged it. I thought maybe it was a matter of money, so I immediately ordered an extra brioche and an orange juice. I immersed myself in my work. After a quarter of an hour, my back started hurting. I slipped off a shoe and pulled my foot up onto the chair where I was sitting. This time the owner was annoyed. She came over and told me that I couldnât keep my foot on the seat. I apologized and put it back in my shoe. I finished my juice and went to pay. I asked her if it was really okay for me to stay at the bar, because I had received several remarks, and I told her it was very important to me, otherwise I would have had to wait for my son in the car. This time the owner was very kind. She said: âNo problem! Of course! Please! The only thing is, donât use the power outlet for too long.â The next day I didnât plug anything in. For a while I talked on the phone in Polish while sitting at the table. And when I went to pick up my son from school, I thought it would be nice if he could buy himself a little book at the bar. I came in with him. He has autism, so he took about 10 minutes to choose, going through the selection, and one of the booklets that I didnât want to buy him he tossed onto another. I put it back, and then my son calmly continued choosing. We paid and left. And today. I was at the bar for the third time. My phone was dead, so I plugged it in, ordered a coffee and a bottle of water, and started working on my laptop. After a quarter of an hour, this time I heard a raised voice: âOoooo, no! Youâre definitely not going to occupy two outlets!â I was shocked. I went over to the wall, unplugged my phone, and inside I felt that this was enough for me. I said: âEnough. I wonât plug in here anymore.â I began packing my things. Then the ownerâs husband came over and, in a very unpleasant tone, said something like: âThree strikes and youâre out. Once you charged your computer and put your foot on the seat. Yesterdayâyour son was throwing the booklets. And todayâI wonât tolerate it anymore. Pack up and get out.â I packed up, and as I was leaving I said that in no cafĂ© anywhere in the world had I ever been treated the way I was treated here. No further comment is needed. This story will only be understood by those who have the resources to understand it.
Guys! - not here!! P.S. Be careful when checking your change. The man who threw me out gave me 20 cents on 20 euros; only after my explicit complaint did he give me the missing 10 euros. I asked for a receipt, and he admitted that he could only give me a receipt for some of the products I...
