Osteria de Giovanni — Restaurant in Trieste

I have been passing this little osteria for years and finally found a way in. My colleague and I decided to go for lunch because we work nearby, and we can smell the amazing food they are cooking from across the buildings. First of all, I am definitely going back for the wine, it may have been a Merlot (not sure), I just asked for a glass of red wine, and they served me something delicious. I ordered the tartara al tartufo, it really was great. My friend had the ljubljanska with some potatoes. I also had a chance to try a bite, so I can vouch for the greatness; very croccante. The prices seem high, most of the reviews mention this, although they are not much different from the rest of the city. But really, when you know the cost of keeping a place like that open you just can't complain. It has to be this way. So, we'll go...

I was recommended to Osteria de Giovanni by Giulua at Paradiis wines just down the street because I was wanting to find somewhere I could buy a meal to take away as my wife was unwell in our hotel and unable to go out. Giulua suggested I ask Iliana if this was possible. Iliana was so incredibly helpful despite our communication challenge...me with no Italian and her with limited English. I ordered the fried squid with broccoli and the spaghetti with claims which Iliana put in takeaway containers for me. The meals were delicious. Molte grazie Iliana. I'm sorry I wasn't able to return the containers as we left lovely Trieste before...
