Ai Vecchi Parrocchiani — Restaurant in Udine

Great experience. Lived in Italy for three months now, definitely one of the better meals we’ve had. We had the salami and cheese plate for the antipasto, it was fantastic. The gnocchi (made by their Mother I’m told) was hands down our favorite part of the meal. The lamb chops were great as well.

The service was awesome. I ordered online for pickup due to covid restrictions. One of the items we selected was not available (like most good Italian restaurants their menu changes seasonally), and they called to find an alternative. When my horrible Italian proved to be a challenge, the guy got his english speaking brother to give me a call to figure it out, which was greatly appreciated. The osteria serves good food. The prices are OK. But the service was not. The friendly people didn't know much about food. I had a steak from the grill, that was good, but when I asked about a sauce like bourguignonne or bernaise, they even did not know these classics. The wine card was clear - red or white. No names. For dessert I ordered matured cheese. I got a kind of parmesan and an other nameless cheese, which was neither good nor mature. In the end, I was left lonely and had to go to the counter to pay. No happy end.

After the response I'm looking forward to go there again. But I have an idea: why not leave the steak in one peace? More juice! Or serve a burro aromazzicato? Well,...

I came here twice in a day - lunch and dinner. I had the grilled beef on skewers for lunch, which was awesome! Tender, tasty, and went fantastically well with their red wine. Dinner was the cod filled ravioli, which is very unique (at least from where I'm from). Tasted excellent, and paired well with their white wine.
