Today the Loggia del Lionello is a single corpus with the Palazzo degli Uffici Municipali, the work of the architect Raimondo D'Aronco and built in place of the ancient chancellery at the beginning of the twentieth century, in order to satisfy the needs of citizens. The Loggia del Lionello has a rectangular base that extends for 18.50 meters in width and 35.50 meters in length, while, in height, it develops for 15.20 meters.

Very beautiful arcade in Venetian-Gothic style, one of the oldest buildings in Udine. It reminds that in the past Udine was a part of the Venetian Republic. Very interesting place - you can walk through the arcade and enjoy nice view of the Piazza della Libertà via the arches. Also, nice view of the Loggia can be seen from the steps right after the Arco Bollani (on the way to the Udine Castle).

A magnificent historic building. One of many that makes Udine worth checking out. Next door you have an excellent bar, Contarena. Udine past Venice up towards the border and seems to be unfairly overlooked.

Monumento a cielo aperto. Simbolo della città di Udine si trova in piazza libertà, la parte frontale volge verso il colle del castello. Ben illuminato e suggestivo alla sera, consiglio di vederlo di giorno alla luce del sole. Troverete molti dettagli interessanti. Lo stile dell’edificio rimanda allo stile gotico veneziano. La parte superiore del lato settentrionale presenta dei tondi in pietra, raffiguranti momenti religiosi come l’Annunciazione, nonché bassorilievi degli evangelisti. La facciata maggiore è rivolta verso il colle del castello. Vi consiglio di osservarlo se ci passate accanto.

Uno dei più antichi ed importanti edifici storici di Udine, eretto in piazza Libertà deve la sua denominazione a colui che ne fece ultimare la costruzione: Nicolò Lionello.Nella Loggia sono disposte anche altre opere di vario genere, le più importanti sono: i busti del luogotenente Nicolò Mocenigo, dello statista Quintino Sella e dei generali friulani Carlo Caneva e Antonio Baldissera, eroi della prima guerra mondiale, il termometro a spire bimetalliche di Arturo Malignani ed infine il contenitore per gli strumenti meteorologici in ferro battuto di Alberto Calligaris.

Flaniert man in Udine der "Via Daniele Manin" Richtung Altstadt, gelangt man bald zur "Piazza della Libertà". Bin ich jetzt in Udine oder doch in Venedig? Diese Frage tritt unweigerlich bei diesem Gesamt-Ambiente von Platz und der "Loggia del Lionello" auf. Das Gebäude, das Symbol Udines, ist das Rathaus und besticht durch die Erscheinung, dem venezianischen Flair und der Schönheit des verwendeten Marmors. Innerhalb der Säulenhalle befindet sich ein uralter Fliesenboden und eine richtig schöne Holzdecke (siehe Fotos 2+3) Foto 1: der Blick in die Via Mercatovecchio.
