Ristorante La Vecchia Fontana Leggiuno — Restaurant in Unione dei comuni del Medio Verbano

A rainy day in off-season allowed us to visit Santa Caterina hermitage. Very nice. And we had lunch at La Vecchia Fontana. It was just great in every sense. Inside features a comfortable and cosy rustic dining. We receieved a warm welcome from the staff and the chef.The food was grandiose from misto fritta to mushroom tagliatelle and veal in red wine and pollenta. Just marvelous. To continue on this high note, we finished with chocolate mousse (fondant au chocolat noir), icecream in Grand Marnier and a frozen icegream meringue. The bill was sweetly low for this fantastic lunch and wine. Should you be so lucky to be around this part of the lake: do not hesitate one second, it will make up your memory for...

BENE MA NON “WOW” Scoperto un po' per caso e un po' perché il locale cui volevamo andare era chiuso - e comunque uno degli unici a Leggiuno, dove ero per visitare l'Eremo di S. Caterina - è stata una discreta scoperta. Il locale si trova sulla statale del lago Maggiore che porta verso la Svizzera, ha un gran cortile (anche se da fuori non attrae per niente) ed è abbastanza medio nelle dimensioni. All'entrata si presenta accogliente, però. Di li a poco si è riempito, bene, questo non giustifica, tuttavia, un servizio un po' troppo lento e a volte un po' disattento (all'inizio non venivano manco a prendere l'ordine, mentre il secondo si era perso, ad esempio). Il menù non è vastissimo ma ci sta ed è composto dalle principali portate che si trovano in un ristorante, tra cui tipici piatti tipici lombardi quali i pizzoccheri alla valtellinese. Il cibo: lui che deve essere il protagonista di un locale... beh, alla fin fine lo era. Alla Vecchia Fontana si mangia bene, non wow, ma bene: ho preso dei ravioli di brasato che avevano un buon ripieno oltre che il ragù era buono, il ganassino (guancia di maiale) con polenta molto buono: cotto bene, morbido accompagnato dal suo sugo (non troppo grasso) e polenta grezza, tipica di quelle parti. Porzioni siamo sul ni, non sono scarse ma manco abbondanti, si potrebbe aumentare un po', ecco. Come detto, il servizio è un po' una pecca a volte e andrebbe migliorato (soprattutto per le tempistiche), mentre il conto è risultato, nel complesso, adeguato per quello che si è mangiato. Si spende, infatti, sui 11-13 per un primo e qualche euro in più per i secondi, ci sta anche il vino. Un bel localino che vale la pena dare una chance se capitate a Leggiuno.

There is a new owner and he has great tasteful food. We have eaten in several restaurants in Leggiuno and meanwhile I have been there three times already. The owner is very hospital and made us a plate with several anti pasti. the meat was of an excellent quality. Then we got his speciality. A very big plate with several grilled meat like tagliatta, chicken, wurstel and also nice baked potatos and various vegetables. We had a excellent bottle of red wine. The staff came by several times to check if we need something. I can surely recommend...
