5/5!
The restaurant offers not only top-notch food but also an unforgettable experience. We came for dinner and ended up with much more. The staff was well-informed and ensured we felt cared for throughout our visit. They explained each dish in detail, helping us both taste and understand the cuisine. Despite having just 12 options on the menu, the food was among the best we've ever had. It's clear the team put significant effort into perfecting each element before serving it.
The ambience exceeded our expectations as well; the quietness of Monticchiello in the evening made it feel like a private city tour. The city environment, coupled with the charm of the restaurant's style, created a perfect setting for an amazing dinner.
Additionally, the wine selection was superb, with knowledgeable recommendations from the staff that perfectly complemented our meal. Each course was timed perfectly, allowing us to enjoy every bite without feeling rushed. The attention to detail was evident not just in the food but in every aspect of our visit, from the warm welcome to the final goodbye.
Overall, Fra Paolino has earned our loyalty, and we are eager to recommend it to others. This dining experience was more than just a meal; it was a memorable evening that we will value and look forward to experiencing again. The dedication and passion of the team at Fra Paolino truly made it special, creating a standout destination for anyone seeking an amazing...
Read moreWhile we found the food very good during our evening at Osteria Fra Paolino, we felt very let down by the wine service.
We were after a recommendation for a local wine, and three were presented to us - upon request they mentioned these were priced at €170, €220, and €400 per bottle. We were a bit taken aback by these being the only options provided, and asked for some different options at a lower price level - they came back with a single bottle and indicated it was at a much, much lower price and quality - they didn’t mention the price, we only found out it was €120 when the bill arrived, nice wine though. The approach taken by the servers felt opportunistic and untransparent, and put us in quite an awkward spot.
While we are generally happy to spend money on great food & wine, we also expect to be able to enjoy good wine at a more regular price, especially in Italy. We dined at Osteria Francescana two nights later, where we were recommended delicious wines at a much more palatable price level.
Also, we were charged €20 per glass of bubbles at the start, which were noted to be €15 on the menu. For us, we were left feeling taken advantage of as tourists in this charming small town, and wouldn’t recommend visiting this restaurant...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing! Some friends and I were in the town for a wedding and stumbled upon Osteria Fra Paolino while walking through town, with no idea of the incredible experience that awaited us.
From the moment we walked in, the staff were warm, friendly, and professional. The food was simply outstanding, full of creativity, flavour, and passion. The wine selection was also top-notch and with a reasonable cost. The reviews complaining about the wine price clearly don’t figured out they were in a fine dining restaurant.
We decided to try the tasting menu after Paolino himself explained it to us with such love and pride. At that point, we had no idea he was the mastermind behind it all!
Each dish that came out was better than the last. They offer a beautiful fusion of traditional Italian flavours with a creative twist. You can truly taste the passion and care in every bite. It was so good that we had to come back the next day for lunch!
Honestly, this place deserves a Michelin star. Or at the very least a mention in the guide. I’ve been to some starred restaurants that didn’t come close to what we experienced here. I guess it’s only a matter of time…
I’ll definitely be back. Thank you,...
