PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT
The tagliatelle with duck ragu and sliced beef were honestly good, but unfortunately the service was bad. It was the 1st time in my 2-week long trip I encountered a negative restaurant service.
First of all, it took us sitting there 15 mins before we even got the menu. That was because the owner was 'busy' attending to other italians.
Secondly, he had to settle the order, the bread, and open a bottle of wine for the same italian table. We had to wave to him 2 times to get his attention to order, and still he had to make sure to refill the wine glasses for other tables before taking our order.
Thirdly, even though there was cover charge for bread, we still had to ask for our bread.
Maybe we were younger looking asians compared to the rest of the italian elderly (there were 4 other italian tables, we knew because the owner would check on each table).
It was finally when we got the check before the owner asked us if the food was good. Yes the food was good but one way or another the service was one of the worst...
Read moreThere was no Florentine steak when we went and while we were able to find truffles, the cream sauce in which they were set did not do them any favors. Also the gnocchi tasted a little bit old. The dishes were interesting and flavorful, the price was OK. They have a good selection of wines and they have some wines that are not so great. This is a very quiet place so prepare to bring your indoor voice and the clientele is older. That’s my review. My husband wishes me to add that the waiter messed up our order twice; first with the entrée and then with the first course. He initially gave us a cheap wine that tasted like bad communion wine and was laughing about it with some of the older customers at the restaurant. Then at the end of the meal he did not offer us any sort of digestive or coffee but he did offer it to the table behind us. We are not Italian so it’s possible that we were profiled as ignorant foreigners. The truth is we’ve been living in this country for...
Read moreWe stumbled into this place an hour before they closed by happenstance and I'm SO glad we did. Not only did we get an authentic family meal (Literally the whole restaurant was operated by 3 generations of family at the same time) but the food here might be the best I've had in Italy in 3 weeks.
You can tell that the story, the good, and the flavors MEAN something to these wonderful folk. The taste of the antico peposo still lingers in my taste buds and calls me back for more. There's a few restaurants that could learn something from these...
