"You don’t come here to eat. You come to remember what eating means.” Along the winding backroads between Parma and Reggio Emilia—where the morning mist still smells of freshly drawn milk and the hills tell stories of prosciutto and soul-warmed memories—there’s an osteria that seems lifted straight from a Guareschi tale. A modest sign. In historical Montecchio in Emilia. And inside… the truest Italy. Here, tradition isn’t a word on the menu — it’s an act of love. Every dish is handmade, just like it used to be. But served with a grace that rivals any Michelin-starred table: herb-filled tortelli and aged Parmigiano that melts like a whispered secret, anolini in broth whose rich aroma embraces you, hand-rolled tagliatelle dressed in a slow-stewed ragù, the kind that unfolds like a well-told story. The culatello? Sliced thin as a sigh, paired with golden gnocco fritto — light as a cloud. And the Lambrusco — served chilled, lively, with a rustic yet noble character — tells the story of this land better than any guidebook. The wine cellar had a thick book if Lambrusco is not your wine. The service is familial, yet flawless. A sincere smile, a whispered recommendation, a grandfather’s anecdote that becomes part of your meal. And time, in there, simply stops running.

Such a great restaurant to try Emiliana cuisine and other traditional italian dishes. The menu is quite wide with very fair prices and seasonal additions like the white truffle menu. We had charcuterie, with their delicious homemade prosciutto, a purely amazing beef tartare with white truffle, few other great antipasti and an insanely tasty white truffle risotto. The only thing you will regret is that you can't have that risotto every day. Great wine list too, with also an old vintage wines selection. Highly recommended.

We visited Al Cavaliere for lunch after the first visit in 2021. And again we had the most delicious food in a fantastic ambience. Gnochi fritti with the local lambrusco… we had all primi piatti and all are amazing. Try risotto if you can. Best return to try all. A must visit in Emilia Romagna. Thank you for the awesome and very memorable experience.

Tutto perfetto! Gnocco buonissimo, ottimi i salumi, risotti da complimenti allo Chef, la signora mugola soddisfatta mentre mangia quindi non essendo colpa mia presumo stia in paradiso gastronomico. Una carta dei vini impressionante! Ho fatto veramente fatica a scegliere data quantità e qualità! Servizio perfetto.
