Garten — Restaurant in Valderice

We had a decent but not amazing dinner here recently. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a homely and inviting trattoria feel, both inside and outside. We were one of the first guests and got quickly seated. We ordered primi and secondi and some drinks. For primi, we had the gamberi rossi (red prawns) seafood tagliatelle and the pasta with cinghiale ragu (wild boar). For secondi, we had the sword fish and the breaded cutlet. The primi were definitely better than the secondi and especially the seafood pasta was very tasty. The secondi were slightly forgettable. They were definitely not bad but they also didn’t wow us. Unfortunately, several of the secondi on the menu were not available, as we would have preferred those. The service staff or kitchen also messed up our dessert order. We had ordered the crema catalana and the lemon sorbet but instead they brought the crema catalana and the tiramisu (both were pretty good but again by far not the best we’ve had in Sicily and mainland Italy). They also misplaced the order between the two of us, which can of course happen but shows a lack of attention to detail. Overall, the service was somewhat inattentive and not very friendly, so there’s definitely room for improvement in that department and therefore only 3 stars in total, although the overall experience is more a 3.5 stars. This evening we had a very unpleasant experience at Garten restaurant. We had a reservation with Fork, which was confirmed. I arrived with my family (me, my wife, two kids 9 and 5) and said we had a reservation. They checked and it was indeed registred, but then they stated they had no table available inside, but outside, where nobody was eating and it was windy and cold (16 degrees). Not even a sorry or a fitting solution for their own booking issue. Shame on the staff of the restaurant and really bad hospitality. At 8.30 PM with two kids we had to find another restaurant. Siamo usciti da 5 minuti. L'esperienza più vomitevole della mia vita in un ristorante. Perchè? C'era un CEROTTO USATO affogato nel caffè bevuto da mio marito.

La reazione dei ristoratori? Su un conto di 215 euro, ci sono stati offerti i caffè. Salvo poi dirci che i caffè li offrono comunque sempre. In pratica un fatto gravissimo del genere non ha portato neanche a una diminuzione sul conto... Tragicomico.

Noi eravamo talmente sconcertati che abbiamo pagato, ma a ripensarci, invece di fare i signori con questi sudicioni, avremmo dovuto rifiutarci di pagare e chiamare i NAS.

La cosa più grave comunque è che mio marito si sia bevuto un caffè con il cerotto sanguinolento di chissà chi, venendo suo malgrado esposto a dei rischi sanitari anche gravi. Questo rischio è tutta colpa loro e l'unica cosa che posso fare al momento è cercare di evitare che accada ad altri.

E pensare che eravamo lì oggi per festeggiare il suo compleanno. Rovinato completamente il pranzo e la giornata.
