Da Ferri — Restaurant in Vasto

We have been here three times now as we travel constantly between the North and Puglia. We have had two good experiences and one bad. The last one, today was very disappointing. We had booked a table on the terrace and the famous Brodetto, which we ate there before. It arrived piping hot and included 2 mussels on top, one of which had not opened. Please chef, if you are only offering two mussels, make sure they have both opened! It took our waiter a long time to ask if we wanted to add pasta. We said yes - the pasta took half an hour to arrive, by which time the Brodetto was stone cold. The service was perfunctory as a large party had arrived. Io e la mia compagna ci siamo stati domenica scorsa, appositamente per degustare il celeberrimo "brodetto alla vastese": il quale mi era stato detto essere forse il più buono d'Abruzzo. In effetti devo dire che abbiamo avuto piena perova della fama di Trattoria da Ferri: brodetto davvero ricco per quantità, colori e bontà. Cucinato al momento, viene servito come da tradizione in un grosso vassoio di coccio, assolutamente bollente. Abbiamo trovato la cottura di ogni pesce decisamente azzeccata, era evidente che ciascuno fosse stato calato nel corretto ordine di cottura. Assieme al brodetto viene servito dell'ottimo pane abbrustolito: ma se lo si desidera (e noi lo abbiamo fatto), viene proposta anche della pasta già cotta (spaghetti) da gettare nel brodetto e gustare con il relativo sughetto, una schiccheria davvero. Iniziando a degustare il brodetto, quasi lo avevo trovato poco saporito: in realtà sembrava essere un po' sciapo, ma in realtà una forchettata dopo l'altra bocca ed olfatto iniziano ad apprezzare in misura sempre maggiore le notevoli proprietà organolettiche del pesce. La lista dei vini è imponente e molto variegata: ce ne sono per tutti i gusti e per tutte le tasche. Il personale è molto cordiale nonchè estremamente competente: dai titolari ai camerieri, anche con la sala piena nessuno si esime dal fornire spiegazioni sul cibo o sul vino. E poi la visuale sul porto di Vasto (Punta Penna precisamente) è meravigliosa, soprattutto per un appassionato come me: le tante vetrate permettono di ammirare ogni lato del porto, nonchè di intravedere lo splendido faro di Punta Penna (che con i suoi 70 metri di altezza, è il secondo più alto d'Italia). Per ora mi limito a dare 4 stelle, premiando qualità del cibo, cortesia, location. Per quanto riguarda il prezzo, ovviamente non è un posto economico ma a dire il vero nemmeno esageratamente caro: ogni Euro è evidente che sta a pagare la qualità decisamente fuori dal comune che trattoria Da Ferri offre. Inoltre ho assaggiato solo il brodetto: ma essendo il menù è molto vasto (anche diversi sono i piatti disponibili solo su prenotazione ho notato), voglio testare Trattoria Da Ferri altre volte e valutare se confermare le 4 stelle ed eventualmente passare a...

The restaurant site pictures/views are not accurate. It’s in industrial part of the city with lots of construction materials , cranes in view. Menu was small with not many options to choose. Most dishes were listed for min of 2 people. Reservation was made by our Airbnb host and ordered fish soup that he advised us to try. We were notified by our server that 2 soups were ordered and we will have to pay € 100 even though the menu didn’t show that dish for min 2 person. Then some woman came and said that she could make an exception and make only one for us. Not to mention that it was a huge dish for even 2 people. Nothing special about it.
