Old George Irish Pub — Restaurant in Venice

I was there at 9.0pm and the place was very quiet. I had come hoping they would show English football clubs on TV, as has been the case in Irish bars the length and breadth of Europe, but this place is as Irish as chow mein and It seems they only have domestic channels. It takes more than serving Guinness and Kilkenny, nice as they were, and framed Guinness posters on the wall tomake an"Irish" bar. Putting all that aside, it was the closest approximation to a pub that I found in Mestre and I would not disagree with the good reviews posted previously regarding the food (I didn't partake) or the atmosphere. Ieri per una cena veloce, abbiamo optato per questo pub in stile irlandese, era da un bel po’ che non ci venivamo e sebbene l’accoglienza sia stata più che cordiale, mi ha lasciato un pochino l’amaro in bocca. Il posto è piccolino, quindi consiglio di prenotare se volete trovare un tavolo libero, l’atmosfera è intima con luci soffuse, ma per il resto non mi ha entusiasmato quanto avrei voluto . Essendo ambienti piccoli, i tavoli sono molto vicini fra loro, se si comincia a riempire, l’ambiente si fa un po’ caotico e si fa fatica a parlarsi…..ci sta in un pub ma mi pareva mancasse di un’anima, forse perché in Irlanda ci sono stata da poco e ho frequentato lì qualche locale tipico, dove appena entrati si trovava subito il calore della musica dal vivo e della gente….difficile riproporre per intero tutto questo in Italia. Per il resto cibo nella norma, mio marito ha preso un club e una birra che ha molto apprezzato, io una crepes salata alle verdure che mi pareva un po’ insipida. Avvertita dalla cameriera che ci sarebbe stato da attendere per la crêpe, perché avevano molte ordinazioni da asporto, abbiamo cercato di ammazzare l’attesa con delle patate fritte. Un po’ mi ha indispettita la ragione dell’attesa, perché comunque alle 19.30 non c’erano ancora molti tavoli occupati e pensavo dessero precedenza alle ordinazioni in loco, ma a loro favore devo dire che hanno cercato di velocizzare la consegna al tavolo. Fantastic pub to watch the Champion's League football in mainland Venice! I had the bacon burger and fries yesterday which were amazing and the chicken nuggests & Nutella cheesecake this evening which were out of this world! All the staff are lovely and a big shout out to the girl working there who remembered me from yesterday evening - really nice to talk to and provided a great service. Will definitely be back if I return to Venice and would highly recommend it to anyone...
