Trattoria Pizzeria Da Piero — Restaurant in Venice

We went to this restaurant by mistake after our bus driver skipped a couple of stops and then finally stopping directly in front of this trattoria. At first they asked if we had reservations. We didn’t, but they work out a couple of tables and squeezed the two of us in. I can’t say how much the staff went out of their way.

We got prosciutto, caprese salad, the mixed meat platter and bolognese gnocchi. All were incredible! The bread served was fresh, the tomatoes in the caprese were full of flavour, as was the meat (beef, chicken, sausage and ribs). It is obvious that the meat and vegetables aren’t adulterated like they are in North America.

The waiter gave us two digestives after our full meal (we shared all plates). The first was Sgroppino (lemon gelato, Prosecco and chilled vodka) and this was so subtle making a perfect finale for supper. Until they brought out a licorice flavoured cream (but wasn’t sambucco) as a second.

PS. For those looking for pizza: they were big (about 14-16”), full, and looked incredibly delicious. People ordering them were eating them themselves (not sharing). And looked much better than any pizza I saw on the Venice islands.

PESCE? ASSOLUTAMENTE NO!!!! QUALITA', QUANTITA' E PREZZI NON SONO ASSOLUTAMENTE CONGRUI non lasciatevi ingannare dalle fotografie inserite qui e nel menù perchè per mia esperienza non assomigliano minimamente alla realtà; ad esempio, nell'antipasto misto di pesce, cambia drasticamente la quantità del singolo assaggio (3 gamberetti, 1 latticino, mezza alice marinata, un pezzettino di tentacolo di piovra anoressica, una sarda in saor secca e amara, un volevant con baccalà mantecato buono, una cappa santa con besciamella e radicchio, un polipino che sembrava uno scherzo di carnevale perchè senza esagerare era grande quanto la falange del pollice, un canestrello, due cozze, uno scampo) ed alcune cose mancano ma senza essere rimpiazzate da altre, qualità? molto scarsa! e la modica cifra di tale piatto è di ben 15,00 euro!!! (mi spiace solo di non aver fatto la foto...) altro esempio? la frittura mista! intanto è servita assieme a verdure fritte, quindi la quantità del piatto è vivisamente ingannevole rispetto alla quantità del pesce che si andrà a mangiare (ma è scritto nel listino, quindi nesun trucco e nessun inganno) ma, in una porzione ho trovato 6 gusci di canestrelli ed un solo canestrello.... sfortunata? puo essere! soprattutto guradando i piatti di un gruppo di persone nel tavolo affianco, che nelle stesse portate, i piatti erano più abbondanti e con ingredienti diversi.... ma sembravano essere clienti abituali e non saltuari! (non che dovrebbe essere criterio di differenziazione, ma.......) Come in quasi tutti i ristoranti-pizzerie il tutto è rigorosamente congelato e non fresco, ma... la caratteristica principale, la qualità, qui purtroppo manca di gran lunga... cosa più ecclatante? i gamberoni sapevano da ammoniaca, quindi era pesce vecchio e andato a male! messa in conto regolarmente a 12,00 euro. Quando ho fatto portare in cucina il piatto, il titolare si è limitato a dire che poteva succedere anche se era un caso e che gli dispiaceva, fine! non si è nemmeno offferto di rifare il piatto o di portare qualcos'altro!!! Per non alzarmi dal tavolo con fame, ho ordinato una pizza margherita che poi il proprietario non ha messo in conto... ma tutto il resto si!!!! ritornerò? noooo!!! e lo sconsiglierò vivamente a tutti! peccato, perchè erano un sacco di anni che non ci andavo più ma una volta ero anch'io una...

The food was good but our waiter specially was very rude to us. Maybe because we didn’t speak italian (even though we tried). We went 50 minutes before closing time and he gave us the menu when we sat down and came back 4 minutes later pointing at his wrist watch unpatiently. We didn’t feel welcome at all. First he said no fried stuff were available but when he noticed we would take even more time to choose he just left us without saying anything and came back a minute later saying “ok fried stuff ok” very rudely.
