Wie die Gretl am See so genau entstanden ist, wissen wir nicht. Direkt am Kalterer See neben einer großen Liegewiese gelegen, ist die Lage in jedem Fall exponiert. Während viele Strandbäder, in welcher Größe auch immer, leider oftmals nur auf einen Kioskbetrieb verweisen können, ist dem hier nicht so. Ob dies grundsätzlich geplant war oder dem Geschick und der Phantasie des Gastwirtes zu verdanken ist, vermögen wir ebenfalls nicht zu beurteilen. Tatsache ist, dass neben der schönen Aussicht auf den See und die dahinter liegenden Berge, hier ausgezeichnet gekocht wird. Auf Basis einer mediterranen, Südtiroler Küche genügen die Kreationen durchaus höheren Ansprüchen. Dies wird ergänzt durch eine mit viel Verstand zusammengestellte Weinkarte, die ihren Schwerpunkt in Südtirol hat. Dem noch nicht genug ist der Service sehr freundlich, jedoch nicht aufdringlich und wie wir beurteilen können, bestens geschult. Located directly on Lake Kaltern next to a large lawn for sunbathing, the location is in any case exposed. While many lidos, no matter what size, unfortunately often only have a kiosk, this is not the case here. Whether this was planned in principle or due to the skill and imagination of the innkeeper, we are also unable to judge. The fact is that in addition to the beautiful view of the lake and the mountains behind it, the cooking here is excellent. We started our visit with renting boat. It was lovely and sunny day and we went there for one day trip. After that we ate lunch. Almost everything was very tasty and looked great. There was a problem with kids menu. We ordered vienner schnitzels and they didn’t taste at all. I felt like it was previously prepared and frozen meal. The same quality as frozen meals from shops. It was disappointing. The rest like bruschetta, aperitif with fish, meat, vegan gnocchi and desserts were really great. It was quite expensive but for sure I will recommend to visit this place. Amazing place! I went for run around de Caldaro Lake and found this place accidentally. The next morning I took my family to have breakfast at Gretl am See. The atmosphere, people food and coffee are great. The interior design is a chic groovy style. Is just a shame that we were there on the last day of our holidays and it was raining, otherwise we would’ve been there more often. The bar upstairs has amazing views to the lake.
