This Restaurant doesn't even deserve 1 star My colleagues and I went to Chives in Barbican for a staff dinner. After ordering our food we waited for 2 1/2 hours before being served the appetizers then the main course came 5 mins later for everyone else except for two of us who was still waiting...3hrs later all we kept hearing is the food is coming after it finally arrive for the remaining two myself and my coworker was served the wrong order after waiting for 3HOURS people . After all that they took back the food from both of us at this point we are so extremely hungry and angry at the poor service. The food did not arrive again until 15 minutes later at which point we told the waitress to box it up. My colleague checked her order and she ordered spicy WINGS and was served a piece of Chicken breast with it with no explanation what so ever but the funny part is that earlier I was wrongly served spicy wings and it looked as if they just removed the piece of chicken that I tasted and replaced it with a piece of chicken breast. After all of that we had to join a line to pay our individual bills because the machine was down so they couldn't bring us the check at our table.When I got to the cashier the cash register was out of paper as well and they had no change , the cashier went in to his pocket to give me my change. At this point I still haven't eaten i had to take the food home after joining that long line .I was at the restaurant from 6pm and made my order around 6:30, I got home after 10pm and was so bloated from gas pains I had to drink some tea before I ate.In addition to this we had to begging the waitress for water ,this was the worst service I have ever...

Went for dinner and firstly inside the restaurant itself had a rotten curry scent which was very off putting so we decided to leave. But then the waiter came and insisted we stay and sit outside. So we decided to give the restaurant a try.

They didn't have a lot of food and drink items listed on the menu so ended up ordering the callaloo & crab dip, corn fritters and lamb sliders to start.

The callaloo and crab dip tasted awful. It was dry and the flavour wasn't great. There was a hardened layer of cheese on top of the dip that we had to lift to get to it. There were strings of callaloo and pieces of crab meat but it was dry chunks. It came with 6 tiny pieces of cut baguettes which was entirely disproportionate to the size of the dip. When I asked for chips, I was told they didn't have that either.

The corn fritters were extremely oily and there were hardly pieces of corn in them. The saltfish sauce that came with it wasn't great either.

The lamb sliders were the saving grace of this experience. They tastes really delicious and the meat was well prepared and flavourful.

For drinks we ordered passion fruit mojitos which wasn't the best but was passable.

The place seemed understaffed and we had to wait very long in between ordering and receiving food.

Came because the restaurant was recommended to me but overall I was very disappointed by the experience and will not return.

Perhaps it was an off night for the restaurant and they usually are better but it was a waste of money and time...

This is honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while; perhaps ever. I arrived at 7pm as part of a group reservation. We ordered shared platters as appetizers; they didn't all come out at the same time ... So some persons were having appetizers while others looked on. Fast forward to placing orders for entrees.....firstly we had to get the waiters attention twice to remind him that we needed to place our order and orders were placed before 8pm and in the end I had to ask for mine to go at 9:30, as our meals still weren't served at that time. By the time meals were coming out, it was after 9:30 and everyone was not served at the same time, although all the orders were sent in at the same time. Add to that, hearing from the waiter that they were out of two menu items that three persons had ordered ....by this time everyone was super hungry and to have to then find something else to order at that time! Unacceptable. The worse part of it all is that there was never an apology and everyone was displeased with the taste of their meal after all that wait. At the core of it however, it's a management problem. The poor waiter was waiting our table, three others on the inside and apparently a large one on the outside, while also seeming to make cocktails by the bar. He simply was stretched too far. The place should have been better staffed. Conclusion... I am...
