Kamei Sushi is a classic old school restaurant with a nice setting holding many memories. The room is full of photos and momentos.
The chef is a friendly man who likes to share his life experiences. He’s run this shop now for 50 years, and has no plans to retire. He says to keep working is good for one’s health, and I think he’s on to something. When he does decide to retire, however, his youngest daughter will be ready to step in. Not only is she a trained sushi chef, but she’s also proficient at making tempura. She’s actually working on serving it Kaiseki style, so that’s something to look forward to. There was also mention of a grandson, so I anticipate this place will be around for a while.
We had the nigiri sushi set. Exceptional elements of this set were the Chawanmushi (Savory Egg Custard), as well as a luxurious tofu, which I assume is the godofu produced at the tofu shop behind the store. It was delicious. Also served was a small fresh fruit cup, miso soup with mushrooms, and a salad. Read more亀井鮨 continues to impress, and my second visit, after seven years, was just as memorable as the first. The sushi remains outstanding—fresh, expertly prepared, and bursting with flavour. The lunch set, in particular, offers great value, providing a variety of high-quality sushi at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is excellent.
