Sometimes, all you need is a quick, comforting bowl of ramen—and Kyoto Kitashirakawa Ramen Kairikiya in Chigasaki delivers just that, with a few surprises along the way.

The parking lot was conveniently half-empty when I arrived, a small stroke of luck that set the tone for a smooth visit. Orders are taken the old-fashioned way—by staff, not machine—which felt refreshingly personal, even if the woman taking my order seemed less than thrilled to be there. Still, everything went off without a hitch.

The food arrived swiftly: a shoyu ramen with egg and a side of five gyoza. The thin noodles were perfectly cooked, slurping beautifully and holding just enough broth. The meat, though thin as expected, was scant and forgettable, hiding somewhere under the noodles like a shy guest.
