Hachimen — Restaurant in Hiroshima

Had the best Okonomiyaki experience so far! I headed to Hiroshima for a short time and happened to have found the best spot.

It's traditional Hiroshima Okonomiyaki and the soba is sooo crunchy; everything is just perfect in its simplicity. I didn't even top up the sauce, because the taste was just perfect as it was. Great portions, that are also good on the eye (made with care)! wish I could eat here over and over again!

The couple that runs it are super lovely (and foreigner friendly), you are welcomed with a genuine smile and chat. Very homely. They even offered me some candy when I left. Also, I very much enjoyed seeing them cook together, like a true team.

I will remember this place!

Where has this okonomiyaki been all my life? The “pancake” is thin like a French crepe. The mountain of fresh cabbage and bean sprouts followed. The oysters were so good. The shrimp and squid was fresh and the chewy soba noodle was al dente. I guess I’ve been ordering okonomiyaki from the wrong restaurant, zip code, state or maybe country? The kind couple running the shop said they had been there for 9 years at that location and 20 years at another previous. They worked silently and cooperatively to make our lunch. It was fun to have a front row seat in an open kitchen. I hope we can visit again on a future visit...

ふらっと立ち寄ったお店でしたが、お店を営んでいるご夫婦がとても気さくで、居心地のいいお店でした。店内にはスマホ禁止の張り紙があったので、店主が注文したお好み焼きをつくる様子を眺めていたのですが、「観光で来たの？」「宮島とか原爆ドームの方は見てきたかい？」と話しかけてくれるので、暇をすることなくお好み焼きが出てくるのを待てました。その気さくな人柄からお客さんと話すのが好きなんだなぁと感じました。近頃、こんな人間味のあるお店に出会っていなかったので久しぶりにいい店に出会ったなと心の中では感動していました。 メインのお好み焼きも広島焼きのキャベツたっぷりでふわふわしたもので、私は季節限定メニューの牡蠣入りそば入りお好み焼きを注文したのですが、牡蠣も店によっては1つの牡蠣を半分に切ったものが生地に混ぜているようなところがありますが、この店では牡蠣が丸々そのまま入っていて、しかも小粒ではなく標準サイズのものがゴロゴロ入っていたので大変良かったです。 また、このお店はテーブルに鉄板があって自分で焼くスタイルではなく、店主がつくって出してくれる形式なので座っているだけで食べれます。 ※写真は店主に確認し...
