I was craving to eat tempura. A quick Google Maps search and short drive from Ise Jingu and we found ourselves at this lovely restaurant. It's ran by an elderly couple who, based on the teamwork we observed, have done this for many decades. They specialize in all things unagi and tempura. I got the tempura set with a side of tamago sushi, my partner got the unagidon.
The tempura set was great! The tempura was fried so it was light and crisp, without a lot of oil residue. They used an assortment of veggies, including shiso leaf. It also came with some delicious miso soup and some lotus root with clams. Lastly, a bit of pineapple for dessert 🤤 I felt the care in the dish, as well as the efficiency and dedication to ones craft. It was Ono!
The unagi don had a nice sized piece of eel, with a not too sweet unagi sauce. There was the soup with the eel liver and pineapple. My partner prefers it to be sweeter, but it was still good.
For the price, I couldn't compain. 1450 for the tempura set, 100 for the tamagosushi, and 2000 for the unagidon! Coupled with the experience of eating at a small, local eatery, we felt well fed and well taken care of.
We'd definitely recommend coming here for unagi, tempura, and/or a laid back and chill...
