Was lucky to find out from a travel leaflet that it was oyster season in fukuoka. It was far from the city centre, but fret not as its accesible with a combination of subway and JR train, plus 1km of walk to get here. Lady boss asked if we got there with JR. She gave us FOC 2 big prawns and 2 small cups of asahi beer. I guessed its a collabo with JR. Seafood is fresh, and prices are published and standardized throughout all huts (aka kakigoya). 1kg of fresh oysters (you get around 15 pcs) for 1,000yen. Thats a steal for japan standards. You can even bring your own stuff to grill e.g. veges. The hut operator sells alcohol too, but they dont mind if you BYO. Really...
Read moreThe place is very accessible from Hakata / Gion Station. Once you reach Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, no need to exit and surrender your ticket, simply transfer to the train on the other side of the ramp. The huts are just a 9 minute walk from JR Fukuyoshi Station. Use your google map as there are no signages going to the huts.
You can bring your own drink and rice, no door charge. Make sure to place the shell on the grill opposite your face. Some burst because of the steam inside the shell.

Else the walk from the station is about 10min were u can get some last minute food n drink supplies from nearby family mart & local grocery (limited option). Charges 300yen for byo food & a grill. On weekend they have 2hours limit for dine in. They charge for stove rents that comes with tongs n gloves. Seasoning are self service at the counter.
