Maro — Restaurant in Iwaki

A nice modern rustic restaurant in a very upbeat part of Taira. Doesn't offer much for parking but is easily accessible from Iwaki train station which is about a 10 minute walk.

The menu has a variety of selections available from fried chicken to deep fried oysters and octopus but most dishes incorporate beef. The drink menu offers diverse options although they are fairly limited. We ordered from the course menu - the standard course meal with Japanese Black Beef sirloin. The kitchen was incredibly quick, we rarely waited for any food or replenishment of any kind. The steak was the crowd favourite along with the appetizers which were included a veggie tart, edamame and a piece of baguette smeared with liver paté.

A friend of ours ordered a serving of rice but the chef came to check if he still wanted rice, as garlic rice was still yet to be served as part of the course. We thought this was very genuine and honest of the chef to ask this, as some businesses would be more inclined to take the money without asking questions. This had a good impact on our experience at the restaurant.

The only thing I will tell patrons to be wary of is the time you plan to visit the restaurant. In the evenings Taira can be pretty intense at night with the amount of drunkenness about. Throughout our time at the restaurant we had people stop and wave at us, even others staring at us while we ate. This is however not the fault of Maro but an element one must consider.

12時に来店し、和牛ヒレ・肩ロース・ローストビーフ丼のランチをセットでそれぞれ頼み、単品で炙り寿司、牛タン、和牛カツ、ドリンク等を注文しました。 席に着き、周りには先に3組の方、隣には予約の席。私の席には30分程経過してからメインのみが来ました。運ばれた時点で湯気もなく手を料理の近くにかざすとやっと生暖かい感じで、和牛ヒレでしたが焼き加減はウェルダンでした。そして私の場合は他の方とは逆で、メインだけが来てサラダもご飯もなかなか来ず更にメインが冷めてゆき、揃った頃にはもう冷えているに近かったです。 そしてステーキソースを忘れられた様でしたので片付け中の男性の店員さんにお願いしましたが、お願いしたあとも誰に伝えるわけでもなくまた片付けをし始めました。他の店員さんが料理を持ってきた際にもう一度言うとやっとソースを持ってきて頂けました。 隣の女性3人の方は後に来た私たちには料理が運ばれている、残りの2人は料理が来ているのに1人だけずっと来ないようで、店員さんはその方に少し強く言われているようでした。 次に単品で頼んだ物も1時間経過してから運ばれて来て、あまりにも時間が経ちお腹も変にいっぱいになってしまいましたので持ち帰りをお願いしました。 そしてそのままお会計をし、残りの炙り寿司はと聞いたところ、まだ出来ていませんと言われ、お会計をした後にまた待たされました。 12時に来店し、退店したのは13時半でした。

これでは仕事のお昼休み時間中にランチを済ませられないなと思いました。

隣の予約席の方は12時半に来店していましたが、予約したにも関わらず、サラダとご飯が既に出切って、冷たくなっているような状態で私たちが退店する際、つまり1時間後にメインが提供されていました。私たちが帰るまでお冷も出ていませんでした。お子様もいらっしゃって、待ちくたびれていたようでとても可哀想でした。
