CoCo Ichiban is Japan's #1 Curry-chain restaurant, and there is good reason for it! CoCo's curry is always very delicious, as most of the curry is pork based. Japanese Curry is traditionally thicker than other curries, and it coats the rice and toppings incredibly well. CoCo's lets you customize your curries quite a bit, and they have tons of different toppings and adds on that you can use!
One of the key differences about this CoCo's is that is has a lot of unique deals and this-store-only specials that are only found in this particular CoCos. If you really like fried food with your curry (like Tonkatsu), this store has many different options to choose from!
From an American perspective when it comes to spice, a Level 3 will let you feel the heat without having to drink too much extra water. Anything above a 5 will be far spicier and heat intensive. There is also spice shakers at each table you can use to increase the heat as well.
Favorite dishes are their Udon Curry, Tonkatsu Curry, or the vegetable curry. You shouldn't ever go above 200g of rice, but either 150-200g is normally a great balance between curry coating without drowning the rice. Anything above 200g is very carb heavy and outweighs the curry itself.
The menus are in English and Japanese, and the staff understands and speaks English well. Credit Cards...
Read moreI eat here occasionally. It's a mainstream curry place, so obviously not for everyone. For those who can stomach fast food though, it's pretty good. They have three types: meat, seafood, and vegetable. You can choose from three types of spicy too: spicy 1-10, mild, or mild 1-10. The mild scale is on the opposite spectrum, made from sauce that has honey in it to make it sweet instead of spicy, and they offer a special additional sauce you can put in it that adds a nice flavor to it. The menu has a choice of add-ins that cost extra, like mushrooms, asari clams, cheese, and others. There's also drinks (soda, oolong tea, mango lassi, etc), salads, and desserts/sides (mango pudding, hashbrown, etc), and of course naan (plain, cheese, or garlic cheese). You can eat in at the bar or a table, or order to go, but keep in mind they only do curry and certain other items to go, so they might tell you no for some things. At the front is some merchandise for sale like boxed curry, t-shirts, spoons, and the common gacha coin machines. I've heard of some CoCo's having manga available to read, but this location doesn't have any (at least not that I've seen). It's a good place that's open late, usually good service and they don't screw up your order often....
Read moreThis was my second time eating here and food was spectacular both visits. I definitely recommend getting a lower spice level if you have not eaten here before. 1st visit, I ordered spice level 5 and I could barely eat it without drinking some water immediately after each bite. On this visit, I ordered level 3 and it was just right. Both visits, I ordered the 3 chicken curry meal with garlic and cheese naan bread. Staff is extremely friendly. Each time I have come, there has been...
