Let me quickly cover the positives about this restaurant as they are few:
The view: it's amazing. Right on the water with windows facing west for a spectacular sunset experience.
The service: top notch, attentive waitress who never let our glasses be empty and was very polite.
The water: cold, clear and served in a clean glass. Free with free refills. Easily the best thing on the menu.
Now for the negatives, there is only one but it's a big one:
The food: in a place that is teaming with food options from all over the world, this place is by far the worst I've had in all of Okinawa. Do you like flavor? Properly seasoned meats and vegetables? Well then don't come here. Everything was grossly under seasoned. There might have been one rosemary leaf on my wife's rosemary potatoes and I dont think the "fresh" vegetables had even been within 12 feet of a salt and peper shaker. Do you like fresh, local ingredients? Well then this is the place for you... if you replace "fresh" with "frozen/canned" and "local" with "definitely not local". It was so blatantly obvious that everything was pre-packaged and pre-seasoned so that anyone could throw it in a microwave to make it "edible". I ordered a filet and what I got was clearly not a filet. It was meat and I'm pretty sure it was from a cow but that is where the similarities with an actual filet end. Luckily they gave us a bottle of A-1 sauce so that I could impart at least some flavor to this sad piece of meat. The pre-seared grill marks were also a nice touch, briefly made me think that meat had actually touched a grill prior to making it to my table. The seafood mac and cheese was more disappointing than the TV dinners that you find in the frozen food section (I would have actually preferred one of those TV dinners) and the vegetables were pathetic. It's so sad that a restaurant with a great location and quality staff doesnt take advantage of the available local ingredients and resorts to frozen, probably imported stuff. I would gladly pay more for better quality, properly seasoned, fresh food from this place; but I doubt that will happen so I doubt I'll ever be back.
I wasted $60 at this restaurant for dinner with my wife and the only thing I actually enjoyed was the free water. Save yourself the disappointment and go literally...
Read moreThis restaurant is an extension of Kadena AB. However, locals/tourists are able to utilize since it doesn’t actually reside on the base. Inside is a little dated when it comes to furniture but the ambience is decent. You can sit inside in the air conditioned facility or opt for the patio. The patio is a great seating option for sunset or date night if you’ll like a bit of privacy. You can also feed the fish (looks like carp) down below bread from the patio.
The food was decent; I usually get the calamari whenever I visit. Its a great option in my opinion, but this is also the only spot closest to the base that sells. On this particular visit, I ordered the blackened salmon with the option of two sides: seafood mac & cheese and buttered corn kernels; and the option of soup/salad for takeout. Decided on the tomato soup as the salad option was just a basic salad after an inquiry with the server. However, I was utterly surprised when I was given seafood bisque which ended up being tasty nonetheless. Wished they provided fresh/adequate amounts of seasoned crotons for the soup instead of the 3 pieces of stale crotons I received. Had a bag at home to assist in adding...
Read moreTried this place on Saturday for brunch and I must say I was surprised that it wasn't packed since I heard it was a pretty good place. I will say the service was excellent. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and seated immediately. The menu looked pretty good it had many options. I decided to go with the French toast w/ a side of 2 scrambled eggs and a mango mimosa. When I ordered the mango mimosa the waiter asked if I was driving. The alcohol limit here in Okinawa, Japan is very low 0.05 so I'm assuming he was trying to make sure that I didn't drink too much and drive. Back to the food, it came our pretty quickly but I not pleased with the French toast at all. It tasted just like toasted dry bread. I would not received the French toast and I would never get it again. The scrambled eggs were just ok for me. Now the mango mimosa was on point. I would go back to this place again and try a difficult dish just to see if it's what people say it is. The really good thing about this restaurant is that if you sit outside you can see the beautiful water and I also got to see...
