Ristorante L'ombra — Restaurant in Karuizawa

We went to this restaurant for my birthday celebration and truly had a great time there. We sat on the table next to the big window and could see the mountain very clearly. We were in awe from the starter all the way to the dessert & coffee. Each ingredient in the dishes perfectly compliment the taste of other ingredients. The two kinds of soup for starter were creative and delicious. The bread served on the side was soft inside and crunchy outside. I don’t think I had ever had pasta as tasty as the one I had there! The grilled fish was super nicely grilled and served with two delicious sauces I had never found anywhere else before. The layout of all dishes (particularly the dessert) was so well done and creative that I felt sorry eating them! The plates used to serve the dishes were also very elegant. We stayed at Club Harvest Karuizawa hotel, found this Italian restaurant nearby on google map, we were attracted by the pics (both decorations and dishes) posted by others. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! The dining area is inside a glass house, surrounded by trees and snow. The food was absolutely delicious, the portion of each dish was just right (not too much). I’ve been living in Japan (Tokyo) for many years, and this simply is the BEST Italian restaurant that I’ve been to. A place which definitely deserves to be better known.

On last minute, we decided to go for a dinner at L’ombra. You have to call them to make a booking for the same day. Easy communication in English.

The environment is delightful, warmed welcoming and the food recommended, while being decently priced. All the dishes are perfectly executed, fine and balanced.

You can feel all the ingredients are locally sourced - including the herbs literally from the garden.
