California one-o-one Pizza — Restaurant in Kure

Good place for pizza. Service is wonderful.

I had a lot of downtime after finishing a morning of railway photography in Kure so I made a two kilometer walk to California Pizza 101 which from the outside and social media posts made the place appear much more casual than when I actually arrived.

The moment I sat down, I was given a glass of water. A few moments later,I was granted a pitcher of water. I was grateful and pretty much out the entire thing down at once. It was so muggy and at 28 degrees after the long walk, I sorely needed it.

A few minutes of debating between a 16” fancy pie or a cheaper, smaller pie with a drink and salad, I went with the lunch special. The pizza was small. even at 20cm it just felt small, but for ¥1400 with a drink and a salad, I can’t complain. The pizza had ham on it as I refused mushrooms, yuck. I liked how they sliced what equates to a 10” pizza in to six slices.

The dough and crust were pretty thick; so was the cheese. I’m sure if there was any white sauce but it sure didn’t appear that there was any tomato sauce. I can could tell they made a small pizza using a medium...

I really enjoyed eating at this restaurant. I was the only customer on a late afternoon weekday. They do have a handwritten english menu, that correlates with the Japanese menu, if you hold the two side by side you can understand the prices.
