Japanese cousin is based on love, passion and the pursuit of the perfection in the details. Doug’s Burger doesn’t have any of these elements! The concept of this restaurant follows an American capitalistic idea that pursuit money. A burger shop that doesn’t already include fries with the burger, it’s stingy and mean. Moreover, if I have to pay 640¥ for the fries, they must be a lot and amazing! Here they are not!! Doug, as you can read from his biography, is a lawyer who invested money in a place, Miyakojima, where he simply spends the holidays. Like most of the lawyers, he looks for the profit. He knows how to sell and to get the maximum profit. This shop lost the love. The bread isn’t fresh, it doesn’t come from a local bakery. The meat was overcooked and covered in pepper, not juicy. The cheese was the common slice cheese you can find in any supermarket. The sauce is not spread evenly. I came with high expectations because it’s one of the 100 best burger shops in West Japan but I was disappointed. I felt like the goal of the shop was to take money from the customer and not to serve a delicious burger. They don’t get happy from the joy of the people eating their product but from the money entering their cashier. Money has to be a consequence of a hard work based on passion. Otherwise, they are not different from any other fast food like McDonald or Burger King. Considering how badly he is trying to open shops all over the world, maybe that’s what he wants. Last thing: this shop should communicate better with Google because all the working hours and other infos are wrong. We went three times: first one was on holiday, second time was...
Read moreHonestly, nothing to write home about with the Burger I ate. Had their Lava double with Fries and A&W Rootbeer.
While waiting for the Oishiso looking Burger, I read up on the History and the story about Doug's adventure and reasoning to open the joint. I was expecting something amazing... what I got was something interesting.
First off the Patty is tasty as I sperated the patty from the extras that came with it. Gotta say the patty wasn't that bad but again I think its the mix or spices that sorta misses the mark.
I don't understand why you'd only get 3 onion rings like its something fancy!? The fries were alright and the Rootbeer was well enough to wash the burger down.
I do have to admit, the Lava idea was almost spot on and I think that should be the selling point however I don't know how much it'd cost if you ask for more since it's already pretty up there in cost.
I get that its good to support the local farmers so make this place togo as a reward after a good damn swim. Its okay to try however don't expect thinking its outstanding unless you just ask for the patty/bun (apparently its all medium well) with just a few topings. Make it simple i suppose.
The music was hip-hop and a bit loud with F bombs dropping now and then... I walked out wanting to punch a baby dolphin... is how I felt hearing the music/lyrics.
I would like to tryout the other spot Doug has...
Read moreSeems like it’s pretty popular place in this island. Doug the owner is Japanese. Looks like he used to live in Hawaii. The restaurant is casual and clean. There are counter tables to long table so you can come as a group if it’s not crowded.
Tuna burger is rare but I didn’t have it. I had cheese burger. Meat is super juicy and soft. I can see how Japanese love this. I personally like a bit firm. I think they used cheddar cheese but kind of tasted cheap. I should had it without cheese. Fries are excellent. Good seasoning of garlic and rosemary. I’d come back again just to eat the fries. Great perfect burger bread as well.
Oh they even give you a wrapping paper to eat the burger. Amazing. U can see how juicy your burger...
