January 2025 Hidemaru, which I returned to in a year, has completely become a restaurant for tourists. When I visited on a weekend evening, all the customers around us were all foreigners. Visited after booking the Gozen set (3500yen/ea) 2 days in advance, which requires advance reservation. There were no other reservations at the time of my reservation, and I received confirmation that I could come a little early after making a reservation for 6 o'clock. The group that arrived around 5:40 and one of us went to park because Hidemaru doesn't have a parking lot. I said we want to start in 10 minutes when he come back. But I received the absurd response from the English speaking staff that we had to eat right away without one of my friends because there were many reservations at 6:00. I had no choice but to receive the food before he arrived, but all the food was already cold. I don't even want to think about cold tempura again. Now it's time to leave Hidemaru for me. I need to find a new favorite restaurant in Aoshima.
January 2024 A place where you can eat fresh food at a good price. Personally, I found it more satisfying than Amimoto, Miyazaki's No. 1 seafood restaurant. It is much more simple and smaller than Aminoto, but the food quality is no lower.
We heard that reservations are required, so we made a reservation in the morning on the same day, but because it was a weekday evening in winter, when we actually visited, there were only two other groups besides us. It is open until 8 PM, but last order was requested shortly after 7 PM.
The quality of the food was good compared to the price and we were satisfied with all the menu items we ordered. In addition to the regular menu, there were some recommended menus of the day, so we ordered oysters (450 Yen) and squid (1000 Yen) sashimi. Both were all satisfactory and went well with sake.
Four people each ordered the hidemaru set for 2,500 yen, and the sashimi, tempura, and stewed fish were all delicious, so everyone in the group was satisfied.
I was very curious about the 3,500 yen set menu, but I was disappointed that I couldn't order it on site because it required advance reservation. Next time, I will definitely prepare and order in advance. I ate Ise Ebi the day before, so I didn't eat it that day, but I decided that I wanted to try the Ise Ebi menu at this place next time.
They say there is a kind owner, but I was disappointed that I couldn't meet her that day. I look forward to seeing...
Read moreWe made reservation and had to order our dishes in advance, although when we were there, we could add more items.
Food was great except for 2 incidents:
Glass of beer came with a thick layer of form. When the form settled, it was only slightly over half full. Used Google translate to inform them. Was told this is how they serve their other guests as well. So i had to let it go. It left a sour taste.
We order a plate of squid when we were there. They left it out. Other items ordered were well served. We can't read Japanese so we could only count the items when we pay the bill. Hopefully we were...

I’ve been living in Japan (Kanto region) for three years now so I’d like to believe I know a thing or two about sashimi. We had the Hidemaru set and the Kaisendon. Everything is reasonably priced too, can’t believe how cheap everything was considering how seriously sweet and fresh all the seafood was. The atmosphere inside is warm and cozy. They have an English menu so while the place feels really local, don’t be scared to go. You...
