Whenever I see this “氷” flag flying in front of a store, my eyes start to glow with excitement and my mouth begins to drool like a Rottweiler. That flag only means one thing, kakigori! Since I’ve discovered this amazing Japanese shaved ice speciality, I’ve been on the search for “ice” flag anywhere I travel, especially in the summer when the heat can be defeating. One particular summer day in Miyazaki led me to this store and it took every once of mindful breathing and self meditation to wait for my kakigori to arrive after ordering. Especially when I ordered their pitaya version. This shaved ice was topped with dragon fruit syrup, homemade condensed milk, bananas, pineapple, mango, dragonfruit, kiwi and blueberries! Totally the perfect thing to calm your internal temperature and satisfy any sweet tooth. We also tried the mango kakigori and this was the best mango anything I’ve ever had! Seating is very limited and the queue can be long but thankfully there’s a park across the street that has plenty of space.

The ice cream is home made! Visiting Kumamoto and Miyazaki areas, you can have ice cream at every corner you visit - Great milk makes great ice cream! But then most are pre-made/commercial or made with milk right from the dairy farm, this is the only one we saw that claims to be home-made. We had a very refreshing lemony flavour, with great zest and just right amount of sweetness. Better hurry, their waffle cones run out daily!

Great local ice cream and shaved ice shop. Is a little pricey, but considering everything is handmade and flavours are very natural and original it’s fair. Perfect for a special treat after the beach or cool down in the heat. Service was a little flat, but they’re often busy by the looks of it. Cash and PayPay accepted (probably cards too, but didn’t check).
