We are staying at the Fairfield by Marriott in Miyazu and on check in we were given a list of recommended izakayas/restaurants to visit. We settled on Ponta and on arrival we were warmly greeted and invited to sit at the bar. The atmosphere here is comforting and cosy with large bar tops of warm wood, cushioned chairs and multiple tatami floored seating areas for dining. The owner and chef explained the menu to us and his English was jouzu. I ordered a regular set meal and couldn't have been happier. Sashimi, grilled aji, cold noodles, fluffy rice, a dark soy miso soup and pickles. My partner ordered the premium set of nigiri and we were both blown away by the flavours and tenderness of the fish. Everything was delicious. Our thanks to the owners of Ponta for a wonderful dining experience. We also had a bottle of dry sake sourced locally from Miyazu and a delicious whiskey highball!...

This is a fantastic Japanese food experience! The owner/cook was so welcoming and friendly! With our very limited Japanese and his English we we were able to have a fun conversation as he worked hard to make our meal a wonderfully authentic and delicious experience! The fish was so fresh and artistically presented. We learned a lot about the style of preparing sashimi and other grilled fish. It was exciting to eat local fresh fish caught that morning! The owner/cook had such patience with us and it was fun to share stories from our lives with him. We felt as though we were having our own private dining experience, which we really were, since we were the last customers of the evening. Highly...

Came here with one toddler and a four yo kid. There were bar tables and we were allocated a tatami seating room.

Most restaurants are full but lady who speaks zero English made us felt welcomed. We tried to communicate with my basic Japanese and she was very patient with us, smiling all the way.

Price was a lil high but this is as local as you can get.

Overall very homely, cozy and local vibe, complete opposite to the touristy spots in most restaurants. Had a great time here. Boss tried to speak a bit of English which was nice :)

I think this restaurant deserves a bit of attention from...

A local fish dishes restaurant. Delicious local fish set dinner, pleasant and warm atmosphere. Run by a pleasant couple, communication with my limited Japanese and their limited English words, enjoyed the food and courtesy. English menu available! Oh! Free parking available right next to restaurant. (Drived around the area searching for food, gave up trying other restaurants as didn't find proper parking space near them!)
