What an absolute hidden gem we’ve discovered! On just Day 2 of our holiday, we stumbled upon Sesoko Coral Beach Restaurant, and it was such a delightful surprise. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and while the weather was a bit chilly for us, the warmth of Makoto-san and his wife more than made up for it. Their incredible Okinawan hospitality made us feel like old friends rather than just customers.
Makoto-san shared wonderful stories about his family, telling us how his father used to free-dive to catch fish and octopuses. He even gave us a little tour of the restaurant, which he built with his own hands—including the restroom and a stunning seashell chandelier! It took him ten months to create this cozy masterpiece? It’s amazing how we connected and communicated despite our limited Nihongo and some google translate —it was all heart.
And the food? Wow. Just wow. We had a seafood BBQ with salted Brikama fish and salmon steak, which Makoto-san had aged for 72 hours in iced salt water to enhance the umami. He personally grilled it to perfection, and it was oiishi katta!
If you’re ever in the Sesoko or Motobu area, I highly recommend visiting this charming spot. It’s an unforgettable experience of incredible food and even...
Read moreWe had a delightful night here. We were unsure of what to eat for dinner and didn’t want to drive onto the main island, so we stayed in Sesoko and looked around. A few signs around the island pointed to this place, so I made a reservation for this beachside restaurant through tabelog for the charcoal grill BBQ.
The restaurant itself seems to be mostly outdoors, and the area is charming. You get a great view of the sea while you’re eating. Ordering is through a website on your phone, and was relatively easy. We added on octopus sashimi and a few drinks to our order. Our server was friendly and polite. It wasn’t very busy when we came (only one other table), as we booked for the earliest time slot available for dinner so we wouldn’t be driving in the dark. Service was fast and they checked on us periodically. The restaurant started to fill up more as the sun was setting and we were wrapping up our meal (around 7-7:30pm).
I highly recommend this restaurant for those who are looking for a relaxed evening! We had so much fun cooking for each other and taking in the...

The food was delicious. The Chef shows us how to bbq on Japanese made bbq’s using locally sourced produce, meat and fishes. Seasoned with 400yr old salt and family recipes, I would come back again and again.
You need to make a reservation as this is a small operation and they take pride in the high quality of service. It is also a small restaurant with not many tables. We made reservations 3 hrs before we wanted to eat. If in the busy season you might need to make reservations earlier.
As we had taken a taxi to the restaurant, I had asked for help in calling a taxi back. Instead, the Owner/Chef drove us to our hostel. He had taken the other guests of the evening as well.
We had a seating at 7pm and enjoyed watching the setting sun overlooking the water. From food to atmosphere to customer service, I highly recommend...
