The first challenge involved in enjoying this hidden gem of a pub/eatery is finding it! The Bear Inn is nestled around a corner over the crest of a trail on the Onsen side, if you head for the junction at the bottom of the run where the trail heads off left to the night ski area and instead head straight on (right hand fork) follow the trail for approximately 40m and the Bear looms down in a bowl on the left. Unlike the standard cafeteria type eateries on the mountain this place oozes charm and character. There is an extensive Japanese menu with a couple of Western dishes thrown in for good measure. Prices are all reasonable, we ate there on a umber of occasions and were never disappointed... Finding it is half the fun, when you're done with lunch head down the trail you came in on, go to the left, past the Alp hotel straight to the Chou triple chairlift and back up...

They have the usual gelande food; Katsu-curry, but also green curry, krapao rice, pork-stamina don, ten-don and more depending on the day. Don't forget come back to try their home made pudding and apple pie with coffee.
