During my time in Okinawa, I went to Hama at least a dozen different times. What kept drawing me back was the swift manner of delivery, the ease of ordering your plates, the friendly and helpful staff, and the delicious sushi.
Regarding the sushi, it is by no means the fanciest or highest quality fish or sushi as a whole out there, however, it is still very very good, especially when considering each plate only costs you between 110-365¥ (with more expensive (and tasty) seasonal options as well.
Upon arrival, select your party size and wait for your number to be called. Get your table number assigned, then order from the tablet located at your table. The menu is well organized and easy to use.
One hiccup you may find yourself running into is with larger groups, while each person orders a few plates, some may have to wait for your table’s queue to die down before being able to place their order, whereas those who ordered first have already finished. I recommend ordering 1-2 plates each, and rotating through for the duration of the meal. Once your plate is ready they’ll zip it out to you on a conveyor belt, often taking only seconds to a few minutes tops.
The desserts and drinks are able to be ordered the same way as the sushi, drinks being delivered by hand and desserts coming through on the same belt. My favorite was always the crepe cake, it’s so light and delicious and a good cap to...
Read moreHamazushi is a franchise, yet the attitude of the staff as well as the food is different from the other restaurants. The seats and the tables were not very clean -- rice on the floor and water droplets on the seats is not what I consider 'clean'. Most of the sushi was the same as the other Hamazushis, but some of them did not taste the way it should have. However, the salmon I ordered was very fresh, unlike some other places. Amongst the unclean-ness and the long waiting time despite reserving a seat, there is little good thing I could say regarding this specific Hamazushi. But perhaps it was only so on the day I visited this place; it may be different on other days. Other places of the same franchise...
Read moreI used to go to Hama Sushi quite a lot when j was living in Japan as a student. Came back for the memories (and a cheap dinner) and was a bit disappointed. Let's start with the positives: it's relatively cheap, very fast, you can conveniently order everything your heart desires from a multi-language tablet and the wait to get in wasn't too bad. However, the quality of the food is not that great. Some tuna we got was still frozen, the sushi rolls and nigiris are assembled quite poorly. You can tell that the kitchen staff's priority is speed. So overall, it was an ok dinner but nothing to rave about. Not bad as a quick food stop if you're shopping...
