とこわか — Restaurant in Nakatsugawa

We were in Nakatsugawa to appreciate the GREAT fall scenery when we got hungry around dinnertime. Eat-in is apparently a 2-day advance reservation but take-out is fine with a couple hours advance notice.

So we called ahead and ordered a couple unagi-dons (eel over rice). I'll preface the review by saying I have never liked unagi. Either the sauce is too sweet or the eel's too stinky or overcooked, all kinds of problems.

To sum the eel from Tokowaka in one word: "delectable." Melt-in-your mouth tender, with a sauce that's neither too sweet nor overpowering, all cooked to perfection. I had one of those life-altering moments that happen when you learn that a food you had always hated was actually delicious, when prepared by the right place. I'm so glad we came.

P.S. my wife loves unagi and she said it was great too! Also there's parking for a couple vehicles...
