Tokaiso Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Nikko

I can't remember the last time I gave a 5 star rating but this place truly deserves it. The chef is Chinese and the food is like a machi chuka restaurant (local casual Chinese) but so much more than the other places we've been in Japan. Even compared to Chinese places we've eaten at in various countries, this place was just fantastic.

The place opened earlier this year but they were previously in Ueno Okachimachi. The lady manager was lovely and very friendly. Food was excellent - tasty yet clean with very generous ingredients and a good spread of things. All dumplings are hand made (they don't just use frozen store bought ones - I asked). One of the best Chinese meals I’ve had. Was there with my visiting family from India. Large table of 8. The hosts both were incredible. Gracious, kind, hospitable, accommodating and so friendly. The food was divine. I mean from the dumplings to the veggies to all the mains. Everything was delicious. I cannot believe Chef got all that food out from his kitchen. I asked for a Beef hot pot to be substituted by Pork. They did that with a smile. The service was also so efficient and detailed. Incredible.

We all were so surprised to find this gem in Nikko. Highly recommend to anyone...

One of the best Chinese food we’ve ever had! Everything was delicious including the desserts! Very homy atmosphere run by a very kind and lovely couple.

We asked the lady to help us call a taxi to our hotel as we could not speak Japanese. But she ended up driving us to the hotel herself! We were very grateful, highly recommend...
