Sushi Nakano — Restaurant in Noboribetsu

We had a very nice time here while we were staying in town. It was initially awkward because we arrived before they were due to open (there wasn't any information on Google) and due to our limited Japanese, but we quickly settled down for a great omakase experience!

Incredible fresh fish and seafood straight from the nearby fishing port, prepared right in front of you and nicely presented. All very tasty.

We weren't offered a menu on the day, we just defaulted into the omakase which consisted of 8-10 dishes (depending on how you count!) including lovely sashimi, brilliant nigiri and other small dishes.

We managed to converse a bit with the owner and chef, who treated us very well. At the beginning of the meal they even offered to go out and buy the drink we initially asked for because they didn't have it. The atmosphere was cozy and cool too.

The ultimate price was actually a lot cheaper/more reasonable than I was expecting (especially coming from London). It was ¥10,000 per person for the full experience and...

We visited the Restaurant today for the Omakase menu. It was very delicious and the chef was a master of this art. Unfortunately we had to leave in a hurry because our Hotel had a curfew time. So we told him and he changed the menu for us so we were able to enjoy the most of it. But we felt like we couldn't really show him our appreciation for his menu items since we had to leave so early. Nakano-san was amazingly hospitable and skilled at his craft. Even though his shop wasnt open, he let us come in and have a meal. It felt beautiful and cozy. He made fresh sashimi for us in front of us, and was a warm host. He also let us have a bit of sake and took out his swords to show us! This was the best omakase experience I've ever had.
