A Hidden Gem in Okayama – Ramen Issyōan Delivers a Bowl of Perfection
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Okayama, Ramen Issyōan is a true culinary treasure that every ramen lover should experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm, authentic atmosphere that instantly transports you to the heart of traditional Japanese ramen culture.
The star of the show, of course, is the ramen. Issyōan’s broth is nothing short of exquisite—rich, deep, and perfectly balanced, with layers of umami that linger beautifully. Whether you choose the tonkotsu, shoyu, or their seasonal specials, each bowl is crafted with a level of care and precision that’s rare to find. The noodles have the perfect texture—firm with just the right amount of chew—and they hold the broth wonderfully. Toppings are fresh, generous, and thoughtfully placed; the chashu pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the ajitsuke tamago (seasoned egg) is cooked to perfection, and the aromatic scallions and nori add that final touch of brilliance.
Service at Issyōan is warm and attentive. Even if there’s a line, it moves quickly, and the staff make sure you feel welcome and well looked after. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed, making it a perfect spot whether you’re dining solo or with friends.
Ramen Issyōan isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. If you’re in Okayama and love ramen, this place should be at the top of your list. Highly...
Read moreAfter eating at this place, I could tell that the raamen here is made by people that really understand about food. We, a couple, ordered the two options of shio ramen, the one with chicken soup and the one with chicken and seafood soup base. One of them was ordered with the thick noodles. The the noodles were both cooked to perfection, but the thick one was definitely the most special, it was one of the most delicious noodles I have ever tasted. The slice of chicken breast were also perfectly seasoned and cooked, ultra soft texture. The egg and the bamboo shoots were also great (but it would be better if the bamboo shoots were warm). The soups were good, with delicate flavors. The only problem for us was the amount of oil on the soups, it was too much. I our opinion, this amount is unnecessary and unpleasant. Maybe the restaurant could offer the possibility of having less oil over the soup. If they did this, it would be one of the best shio ramens I...
Read moreThe porc in the ramen is one of the best I tried so far in Japan. The chicken, the bamboo shoots, the noodles, the broth are top quality. Regarding the condiments, I generally prefer a less acidic vinegar and a more precise serving system. The onion powder seems mixed with some MSG powder. I would prefer dry garlic chips. At least I could see what I eat.
The macherel sushi bowl is amazing and was my favorite actually.
About the Oyadori bowl (chicken and rice), I find the sauce way too sweet and too much sauce was added to the rice. The bottom of the bowl was full of this sauve. Also it seems a bit not natural like the kind of Chinese sauce you can buy in a...
