Updated March 2020: If you you are looking for New York Style bagels, this is not your place.
But if you are looking for a delicious variety of original bagels I HIGHLY recommend Zebra Bagel. With over 25 different kinds of bagels and counting; you will be coming back again and again for a long time to go through the whole list. Bagels, bagel sandwiches and scones are the main dishes here. Though I just had a yummy rich pumpkin soup to go.
For COVID safety call ahead (the owner speaks English) to pre-order and schedule a visit time! The shop is small and they want to limit customer - customer contact. They will close early if they sell out. They also sometimes attend trade fairs on the weekends. Use google maps to find it your first time, but after that it's easy! New hours: Open Wednesdays - Fridays from noon - 6 pm (or until sold out - which is usually around 4).
One of the truly special things about Zebra Bagel is that they wrap the ingredients into the bagels so no mess. A Blueberry Cream Cheese bagel with the cream cheese already inside. You can eat in suit and tie with no worries of spillage. Try the Apple Cinnamon Bagel with a wonderful apple pie filling in every bite! If you like it spicy the Mexican Heat Bagel with spicy chopped beef and curry powder topping will make you smile. The Tomato Bagel with dried tomatoes, olives, cream cheese, and spices keeps me coming back for more. They have simple Wheat Germ Bagels and Plain Bagels too. Something for most everyone. I haven't really mentioned the scones, but try one..then another... and another. You'll be happy you did!
I wish i had more time to write, but it's time to go to...
Read moreBeing from NY I love bagels and am always trying new ones. Though I like a variety of bagel styles my daughter is picky. She only likes soft bagels like you would get a Dunkin Donuts in the States. I found a bagel shop on the island that has the softest fresh bagels made with love and care at Zebra bagels. They were very tasty and I also enjoyed my iced latte. They do sell out quickly and there are times for the specialty ones. There are many choices to try including scones! They are only open three days a week Thursday-Saturday. Thursday and Friday they open at 12 pm. Each day has a different menu of options. There’s a very small parking lot in the back that can fit about 3 cars. It’s in the back of the store. Locals seem to love this place and wrap a line around the store, so get there early to pick your top choices. I will definitely be back and next time I’ll stock up. I also can’t wait to try the scones. The shop is tiny and there...
Read moreThey only serve sandwiches until 10 a.m., which was a little disappointing—after that, you're limited to just the bagels themselves.
That said, the sandwiches are well-priced and taste great. You can get them hot or cold, and my favorite was the warm blueberry jam and peanut butter—simple but delicious. Just a heads-up: the ham and cheese comes with Dijon mustard, which might not be to everyone’s taste.
The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the woman at the counter spoke English well, which made ordering easy and...
