Oma is a place where any sushi-ya you walk into serves excellent tuna sashimi and like, i.e. the standard here is very high. Even then, the tuna sashimi here at Hama-zushi is a cut above the rest.

However, the owner-chef does not respect his customers, perhaps because we are foreigners.

Our group of four dined here twice, on 2024.10.19 and 2024.10.21. On the first night, we had made reservations to sit at the counter, but the owner-chef said that it was too crowded there, and we had to sit at a table. For that whole night, there was only 2 customers sitting in a counter with 7 seats. Nevertheless, other than this bit of minor unpleasantry, the cuisine was first class and the service by the wait staff was good, though pricing was more expensive than the two fine-dining sushi-yas we ate at in Sendai and Akita cities.

On the second night, the owner-chef welcomed us to the counter seats, as per our reservation. He asked us whether we would like to have the omakase course, but only I went for this, as the other three had dietary restrictions. In response, the owner-chef showed a clear look of disappointment.

Without taking our orders, except for I having chosen the omakase course, he proceeded to serve all four of us a series of 4-5 small plates comprising of various unusual parts of a tuna. While I appreciated the opportunity of tasting a tuna's heart, ventricle, etc, my companions were getting angry, and pressed to order what they wanted, and the owner-chef finally relented.

For myself and the omakase course, he proceeded to serve me an assorted platter of 16 pieces or so of sushi, and only a few were tuna. I come all the way to Oma to eat tuna, and the other seafood were not impressive. Also, it was way too much food! Moreover, he proceeded to serve a few more dishes after that. I felt cheated, like he was trying to pad the bill.

At the end of the dinner, he presented each couple a single sake cup with the name of his restaurant etched on it, as a souvenir. It was too little too late, and I would advise all to avoid dining here, which is a shame as it does serve excellent...

The tuna sushi set was obviously fantastic, although I was incredibly surprised with the tuna maki - it just melts in your mouth! Not just the set, everything we had was great. My husband said the uni was the best he's ever had. The chef and staff were very nice and accommodating, even though we came without a reservation. They were also pretty friendly, despite us speaking...

An excellent sushi restaurant with attention to detail. The sushi here is beyond exceptional! This is the type of sushi that holds more than fish and rice; it holds the care, expertise, dedication, and love of the craft that is sushi making. My wife and I enjoyed your bondori and also ordered the nigiri plate. The cost was reasonable for the...

The food is good but it is very expensive. We went there for lunch sitting at the counter but the sushi chef seemed to be very busy. Many nigiri sushi that we ordered were also not available. Verdict: good food, dear prices, unfriendly atmosphere.

Tuna a world apart - it is not cheap, but it's about a third of what you would pay in Tokyo. The tuna bowl had regular maguro, chu toro and o toro and was by far the best tuna I have ever had. No wonder Oma no Maguro is prized throughout Japan.
