天暇楽 (テンカラ) — Restaurant in Omachi

This place was a gem. We were in the area in a hotel for a day after coming down from the alpine route, and looked for a place to eat lunch. We found this on youtube, and ordered curry, which was delicious. Later we came back for dinner and ordered fried rice, udon and chicken + pork cutlets - all was amazing. I normally dislike places with so many options, since it usually means that there is no specialty and everything might be just "okay", but this was not the case here. Even the coffee ans parfait for dessert was amazing. And all of this goodness for a price that feels like a steal. Do yourself a favor and eat here if you have a chance, one of the best places we've eaten at in our entire trip to japan (after already been to tokyo, osaka and kyoto). Just one guy making delicious food, and a great cozy vibe. 10/10...

my husband and his two other friends walked in and said good evening in japanese to the workers in the shop. they all got quiet and gave a weird look to all of my husband and our friends. we tried to greet them about getting seated and they all stayed quiet and stared away from us. so ultimately we felt unwelcome so we left. i understand that some restaurants aren’t foreigner friendly however, i saw a bunch of reviews from foreigners that were positive so we were excited since it was across from where we were staying at. it was the rudest experience ever and i’ve been living in japan and i’ve never experienced...

This shop is hidden on a quiet street, a few steps outside of the Kurobe Kanko Hotel. A very local shop, set up like a family living room. The owner at first is not very welcome ( I guess because we are two strange foreigners and he doesn’t speak English). His food and cooking is amazing. Try the hot plate tofu.
