My family and I had the best service experience at Jewels.
It was a drizzling day with heavy wind in late November, the day we had a lunch reservation. The ropeway was therefore not operating. You'd think that our experience was ruined. Indeed it was, until the restaurant sent a car to pick us up from the ropeway station to go to the restaurant!
We had a great lunch. Typically such restaurants with great views will have more lacklustre good. But it wasn't the case for Jewels. The food was delicious and I particularly enjoyed the quiche.
As we were finishing up the meal, a wait staff came over to inform us that the driver has arrived to pick us up to go back down to the ropeway station. He also assured us that we can take our time to finish the meal.
We left the restaurant to meet the extremely polite driver, and asked if he could wait for a while as we wanted to go to the observation deck (because that's really the reason we went to Moiwa to begin with). He obliged, but not before reminding us politely that the wind was really strong outside.
Back on the car down to the ropeway station, I had wanted to ask the driver in my half-baked Japanese if the maruyama JR station was nearby. Before I could complete my sentence, he said OK OK and proceeded to drive us all the way to maruyama JR station. In hindsight I realised was a pretty large detour for him.
I understand it might be rude to tip in the japanese culture, but nonetheless really wanted to pay him for the extra distance, equivalent to what I estimate it would cost for us to take a taxi from ropeway station to maruyama. He refused, and just gave us a warm smile and said "hope you see you again".
And all these great food and service for just under US$30 per person!!
(If Jewels read this, we went on 29 Nov at 1130am. Please commend the driver and deliver our heartfelt appreciation...
Read moreWe had the Eclat set menu with 7 courses with window side seating. Overall, the food was disappointing and did not leave us satisfied. The flavour and texture combinations were interesting and we left with stomachs confused. The highlight was the bread.
Unfortunately, we also went on a snowy night and so there was not a clear view. For parts of the night, the sky cleared up and it was nice. On the plus, we were not charged extra for the window side seating because of the weather.
The staff struggled to serve us in English.
Your ropeway ticket is included in the meal.
Overall, it was an ok experience but I don’t think it’s...
Read moreWe visited Mt. Moiwa Ropeway and decided to have our dinner to enjoy the view. We actually did not have much expectation on the food but it has surpassed all of our expectations! All of us had the pork course. All the dishes were served so beautifully and look exquisite . The pork literally melts in our mouth without any porky taste as it was seasoned so perfectly. The only thing that came short of expectations will the additional chocolate cake that we ordered separately. The cake decors looks amazing but it taste just like a chocolate cake that came out from a store bought pre mix.Thank you such a memorable and lovely...
