喫茶休養林 — Restaurant in Shiraoi

1979（昭和54）年1月創業。中心市街地で最古級の純喫茶。本物の昭和レトロがここにある。コーヒーだけでなく、ピラフやカレーも置く。調度品すべて一級の木彫作品。店主の相吉正亮氏も木彫作家。国道36号沿いなどに建つヨコスト湿原の看板は相吉氏の手によるもの。店内も湿原も看板も一見の価値あり。

Established in 23rd January 1979. One of the oldest coffee house in the city centre. A genuine retro mood. Serves not only coffee, but also pilaf, curry and more.

All furnishings are first-class wood carvings. The owner Mr.Masa-aki Aiyoshi, is also the elder woodcarver.

The sign for the Yokost marsh, erected along Route 36 near the coast to the south of the shop, was carved by him. The coffee house, the marshland and the sign are all worth a visit.

The owner is personable but elderly and it takes time from ordering to serving. Also, English is not spoken, so care should be taken when ordering in English.

I only had a coffee but it was very nice. The inside is incredible with lots of wood. Run by an older couple and they were nice. Google translate to the rescue. I have read the other reviews and I wish I was fluent in Japanese as it sounds like they have many...

100% 현지인 맛카페!! 올해 89세 할머니와 90이 넘은 할배가 운영하는 아주 오래된 카페.. 이 자리에서만 46년째고 그 전에는 도쿄에서 카페를 하셨단다. 할배 36살 때 의자며 테이블 등을 직접 만드셨단다. 모두가 통나무를 깎은 것이다. 다리고 뭐고 붙이거나 못박은게 없이 다 통이다. 깎기만 한 것이다 허리가 굽은 할머니가 타주는 커피, 사이폰식이다. 단언컨대 홋카이도 여행 중 가장 맛있었다 마일드커피인데 그렇게 부드럽고 깊을 수가 없다. 커피 미시면서 할머니 부부의 오랜 인생역사를 듣는재미가 어느 관광보다도 깊다. 파파고와 영어를 섞으면 어느정도 대화가 된다. 헐머니는 세련되셔서 영어도 하시고 언변이 유창하다 구부정한 노인이신데 대화는 참으로 재미지고 유창하다 이곳에 오려면 어느정도 대화할 준비가 필요하다. 낮선 일본이라는 느낌이 전혀 나지 않는다 푸근하고 웃음꽃이 피는 곳이다 그랜마와 함께 시라오이의 보물이다 두 분의 건강과 편안함을 기원한다 진심으로.. 가게 나올 때 할아버지가 굳이 따라 나와서 가는 우리를 끝까지 배웅하신다 마치 고향 다니러 왔다 가는 자식들 보내는 우리네 부모님처럼… 여행에 지쳤거든 시라오이에 가라 그랜마에서 식사하고 휴양림에 가서 커피를 마셔라 모든 피로가...
