An Extremely Unpleasant Dining Experience! Especially Advised Against for Foreign Tourists!

We walked into this restaurant at noon, but unlike most places, the owner did not seat us. We found our own seats and sat down, yet he didn’t come to take our order or even offer us a glass of water. For several minutes, he remained completely silent. After I raised my hand to signal that we wanted to order, he still ignored us. When I approached him to place our order (there was only one set meal—all we needed was to tell him the number of portions), he suddenly erupted, shouting loudly, "Wait!" I genuinely don’t know what he needed to wait for, as I wasn’t interrupting any task. Even if he needed me to wait, his attitude was completely unacceptable.

When I explained I hadn’t heard him, he repeatedly shouted "Wait!" again. Having lived in Japan for seven years, I’m certain this was discrimination against foreigners—he treated the Japanese customers in the restaurant politely. We ended up in an argument, and I called the police. Regrettably, he denied any discrimination, and the police failed to resolve the matter satisfactorily.

This was my first serious clash with a Japanese person in years since returning. During my previous time in Japan, I always believed Japanese service was the best in the world. I don’t know if the world has changed or if Japan itself...
