Ako — Restaurant in Tobe

Despite reading reviews that show what looks like a reasonably priced Japanese restaurant with ample space, this was the worst place I have eaten at in the last 20 years. First, the child chair provided was sticky and hadn't been cleaned. Next, the floor was dirty and sticky around our table so that my shoes stuck to the floor. We ordered the daily special and the lunch special. You can see a picture of the tempura from the lunch special. A mass of uncooked batter of oil containing a wafer thin slice of carrot, a shrimp with its head still on (that's a first for me) and it hadn't even been deveined. Also, instead of sushi came two small circles of Octopus. I ate on and it tasted like it had been splashed with alcohol, so I took it and put it in what I thought was soy sauce, but in fact was a pungent mix of soy and vinegar which was disgusting. The wasabi was tasteless and topped on a piece of carrot that looked like it had been left put to dry all day.

That said, the two meals came to only 2000 yen and had many small dishes. It seems that this restaurant would be better off reducing the range of foods and concentrating on a smaller simpler menu for which they can maintain a modicum of taste.

My bf loves this place because he said you can taste a variety of japanese food in just one course so he wanted me to try it too. It was just along the highway so it's very easy to find. The lights were soft inside the restaurant which created a really nice ambience. The menu had no pictures of the food so i did not know what to expect. But we ordered a course which started with a platter of tempura, sashimi and tofu and a shot of vinegar juice. I don't usually eat sashimi but the taste of that fish was just divine. It was my first time to taste vinegar juice so i was reluctant at first but when i had a sip, i could feel how it calmed my taste buds to prepare for the next set of food which consisted of vegetable dishes, appetizers and some side dishes i don't really recognize, a small portion of bread and rice, and miso soup. Just when i thought that was everything, (it was already a lot) then came the main dish which was the gyu yaki (beef bbq) and then the dessert (sweet potato pudding) I was so overwhelmed i could hardly eat at first, i just wanted to marvel at the different dishes served before me (it was a feast!) haha. But it tasted great so i finished it all XD I forgot to mention, the course included 2 glasses of beverages to your choosing. They had a drink bar at the entrance and you can even mix your drinks!
