Brilliantly authentic, kinda quirky local family run business.
The restaurant is quite small. There were only three tables in the main room which were taken by what seemed to be some older local regulars , but the very kind hosts opened up an additional room behind a sliding wall.
This room was part rustic Japanese restaurant but also full of cool collection of hi Fi equipment from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, heaps of memorabilia, and an eclectic range of antiques and oddities. The owners are really, really into cool music from across the decades.
Some smooth 70's Jazz accompanied our meal.
The main menu is in Japanese and the hosts speak virtually no English as this is a beautiful small Japanese mountain village not so frequented by tourists.
The owners have printed an additional menu in English showing a smaller selection of their key dishes with photos along with some English to Japanese translations of useful phrases such as "can I have a fork", "may I have the bill," etc. The food was fantastic. So fresh and tasty. Like home cooking with the best ingredients combined with traditional Japanese restaurant. Meal sets of Tempura, Udon, Curry Ramen, were all excellent.
