Long train ride from shinjuku to takaosanguchi. Up a slight slope and stairs to cable car. We paid for return tickets. Pleasant cable car ride. Many many stairs to the peak. Past monkey place and many shrines and temples. Many gift shops and snack places and vending machines. Lovely view at the top but Fujisan STILL obscured by clouds. The walk was invigorating. We went for the 2hr all you can eat and drink thing but to be honest, its not really worth it. How much can a person eat and drink? The food is plentiful but very average. I missed out on grilled fish which might have been nice. Beers were plentiful but we were not beer-a -holics. Still it was an experience. Better idea to bring a picnic. I saw some ppl spread out mats and food. I would still recommend mt takao but maybe not so much the beer garden unlees you are with fairly beery mates. Took the chair lift down. 4 stars for the mountain. 2 stars...
Read moreI was here during the day in winter and purchased from the kiosk which has a limited menu out of season. We ordered the "tengu" dogs named and styled after the infamous long nosed goblins of Yakuoin. They are pricey, but a good size and while not entirely filling would keep you going for a while. Their chips (fries) are made fresh which is nice and are more like what we call potato wedges in Ireland. Seats and tables are plastic, like the cutlery! Spectacular views of both rural and urban Tokyo. You can see Tokyo Skytree on a clear day and actually the floor the observatory is on is the same height as Tokyo Skytree at 633 metres. (Mt Takao itself is 599 metres). My cousin had the crepe and she said it was very good. It was more...
Read moreAll you can eat buffet and beer sounds good after a hike but sadly, the food is mediocre at best. We came on a weekday at 1PM when it opened and there was no line and probably less than 20 people eating at the same time as us. They were bringing out food in very small increments and not enough for even just 20 people. There was a chef on the bbq grill making shrimp but he only made like 10 shrimps and it was gone in a second. The staff and atmosphere made up for it since they were all very nice and views were nice. For 5000 yen a person, I...
